If the news gets out that T'Pol has become infected by this degenerative disease, known as Pa'nar Syndrome, she will be an outcast among the Vulcans, who shun all those who suffer from the virus.

In an interview last month , Berman said the ramifications of T'Pol's infection could be explored in further episodes. "By the end of the episode, we're left with some open story elements. What we would most likely deal with is T'Pol's desire to educate the Vulcan people and destroy this sense of prejudice held against [sufferers of Pa'nar Syndrome]."

The episode also features a somewhat lighter subplot, in which one of Phlox's three wives, Feezal, comes aboard the NX-01 to install a neutron microscope.

'Stigma' is currently scheduled to air February 5 on UPN.
