Billingsley Talks Phlox's Love For Lucas

In "Cold Station 12", the episode of Star Trek: Enterprise that will air this Friday night on UPN, "Dr Phlox's heretofore unseen compatriot, Dr. Lucas...is in deep doo doo and needs big time rescuing", explained John Billingsley.

In a recent Diary Entry for Dreamwatch (via Sci Fi Pulse), Billingsley explained that when audiences first get a glimpse of Lucas, whose name has been mentioned in several previous episodes, he will be suffering a crisis at the hands of Dr. Arik Soong on the titular station where thousands of genetically enhanced embryos were cryogenically frozen after the Eugenics Wars that created the original series' Khan.

"What a kind, funny, intelligent and gracious man he is," Billingsley said of Brent Spiner, who plays Arik Soong, the ancestor of Data's creator. On Enterprise, however, Spiner's character is a villain who wants to gestate the embryos and create an army of genetically enhanced humans. "Dr. Lucas had apparently been transferred to the facility to serve as Chief Medical Officer and I'm perturbed about his well being," noted Billingsley.

The actor who plays Lucas, Richard Rielhe, has been an acquaintance of Billingsley for years and allowed for some fun on the set. "We've both been joking around about the homoerotic subtext of our characters' relationship," Billingsley revealed. "All I can say is that the Denobulans are known bisexuals, so no one should be too surprised!"
