Robert Beltran (Chakotay) and Chase Masterson (Leeta) will take on a mythical Persian beast in modern day Iraq in the upcoming Sci-Fi Channel movie Manticore, set to debut on Saturday, November 26th.

"A team of U.S. soldiers in post-liberated Iraq locates a 'weapon of mass destruction,' but it's not what anyone expected," summarizes the network in a press release at The Futon Critic. Enraged at American soldiers and modern Iraquis for the current conditions of his land, a man of Persian descent unleashes the half-lion, half-dragon Manticore.

The Chase Masterson Fan Club has additional information on the filming of the project, for which Masterson and Beltran traveled to Bulgaria. Beltran plays a lieutenant chasing down Iraqi looters, whom one reporter jokes "must be leading an all-girl commando unit."

Manticore, which co-stars The Blair Witch Project's Heather Donahue, is one of two original movies airing on Saturday nights in November on Sci-Fi. Another is Locusts: The 8th Plague, starring Julie Benz from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The Futon Critic's release from Sci-Fi is here. Masterson's fan club web page has collected several production notes here.
