Alexander (Sandy) Courage was honored by friends, family and colleagues at a memorial service held last Sunday.

As reported by the Film Music Society, Courage, best-known for his music for Star Trek's original series, died at the age of eighty-eight on May 15th. A memorial service was held for him at the Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church on June 29th, where speakers remembered the talented arranger and orchestrator.

Composer John Williams called Courage "a fantastic artist, craftsman and connoisseur. He loved sports cars, cigars and life." Williams added that Courage led a "joyous, happy, highly contributive life."

Music editor Kenneth Hall described Courage's personality. "He was always so sweet and so humble," said Hall, adding that Courage had been a "treasured friend."

Courage's stepson spoke of his love of astronomy. His stepdaughter Lisa called him "the most generous man I've ever known."

A ten-minute video tribute to Courage was shown which showcased Courage, his colleagues and family and his music from both Star Trek and Lost in Space. The video was created by Michael Matessino (Restoration Supervisor on Star Trek: The Motion Picture ) and David C. Fein (Producer on Star Trek: The Motion Picture). Lori Ann Fuller, a soprano from the Los Angeles Opera, sang at the memorial.
