Hello World!

I got a rather nasty surprise yesterday. No, it wasn't that I'd actually confused 'call-waiting' with 'on hold' the other day, nor was it my phone bill or the jump in gas prices… it was something completely unexpected and much more disturbing.

Steve Irwin – aka 'The Crocodile Hunter'

Or, more to the point, I discovered that practically every American or Canadian in my acquaintance has developed the most bizarre *like* of the man. I just don't get it. Over here where he, much to our communal shame, is originally from, he receives rather the opposite reaction to the adoration apparently being ladled upon him in the Americas – over here we consider him, quite frankly, to be an idiot (just ask the aussies I told about this surprising development – that is, the ones who actually knew who on earth he was) where as over there there's an action figure set and a board game. You know, if it weren't for the fact that he comes from here originally, I'd be tempted to renounce my US citizenship. :(

In other news, I have to say that I'd hate to be a certain lady by the name of J.K. Rowling right now – can you imagine the pressure? Millions upon millions of people, many of them children, waiting with baited breath and their wizarding outfits for the next installment of the Harry Potter series. The pressure to write another great book would be enormous – but let's hope she rises up to the challenge. And that the movie's good too. ;)
