Strange New Worlds IV - Copyright Pocket Books

Today sees the launch of some new Trek fiction from Pocket Books. The first is the latest installment in the 'Strange New Worlds' series, featuring a host of new stories submitted by fans of all Trek incarnations. Also available today are the two books in the new Deep Space Nine series.

'Strange New Worlds IV' is the fourth book to be published featuring new stories submitted by Star Trek fans. Run in the form of a writing competition every year, the Strange New Worlds series contains short stories spanning the Trek time line; from James T. Kirk and the early days of the Enterprise A, to Captain Janeway's quest to get Voyager home to Earth.

Edited by Dean Wesley Smith with John Ordover and Paula M. Block for Pocket Books, (courtesy of Psi Phi) the compilation features the following stories:

  • Featuring the Original Series Characters:

    • 'A Little More Action by T.G. Theodore
    • 'Prodigal Father' by Robert Mendenhall
    • 'Missed' by Pat Detmer

    • 'Seeing Forever' by Jeff Suess

Budding writers need not think that they missed out. The next contest for 'Strange New Worlds Volume V' has already been announced. Entries must be with the judges by October 1st and a full list of the rules can be found here at Psi Phi.

An interesting note is that stories featuring the characters of the next Star Trek series, currently known only as "Series V," will be eligible if the show premiers before the contest closes. "Just to make it clear, by the contest rules as printed in SNW IV, we have no choice but to accept stories based on all screen versions of Star Trek." said editor and judge, John Ordover, at the Trek BBS. "If the show premieres in time for someone to watch the show, write a story, and get said story to us by October 1st, we'll review it."

'Strange New Worlds IV' is available to order now at amazon.com.

Also available today are the first new books set after the end of Deep Space Nine. The stories continue after "What you leave behind" and feature new adventures for Colonel Kira, Jake Sisko, Captain Picard and the Enterprise. Read more about the books in Michelle Erica Green's review, published here last week. Book One is available to order from Amazon here and 'Avatar Book Two' can be found here.
