The Town of Vulcan, as well as plenty of Star Trek fans, were delighted with the visit of Leonard Nimoy yesterday.
Fans in uniform, parades, a bust unveiling and a handprint (Vulcan salute) from Nimoy were all part of the celebrations, which took place in the small farming community of 2,000 residents.
Leonard Nimoy will be visiting Vulcan on Friday, April 23, but his visit will be to the Canadian town of that name, not the Federation planet.
After accepting an invitation to the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, Nimoy decided to stop off at Vulcan for several hours. “”I decided that not only would I got there but since I’m that close I would also make the trip to Vulcan,” he explained.
Leonard Nimoy will be visiting Vulcan, a small Alberta town which has built a small tourist industry based on Star Trek.
The Town of Vulcan had the name first, but Star Trek made that name famous when the show became popular. A shrewd decision was made by Vulcan to capitalize on that famous name by the small town with a population of nineteen-hundred residents, and now the town will have a personal visit from Nimoy, the most famous Vulcan of all.
The Town of Vulcan, located in Alberta, Canada, will host the most famous Star Trek Vulcan when Leonard Nimoy arrives to pay a visit to the small town as part of a Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo event.
“It can be confirmed,” said Dayna Dickens, who is the tourism coordinator for Vulcan. “Leonard Nimoy is definitely coming to Vulcan.”
The famous Vulcan salute is now the basis for a new flash drive.
With the holidays approaching, another cool gadget to give to the techy Star Trek fan is a Vulcan USB flash drive. The case for the flash drive is based on the split-finger “Live long and prosper” Vulcan greeting, well-known to Star Trek fans.
