As the twentieth anniversary of the debut of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine approaches, Nana Visitor shares her memories of the show, beginning with her unusual approach to her audition for the role of Kira Nerys.

From the beginning, Kira Nerys was meant to be a strong woman. “What was described to me was that this Bajoran woman was highly aggressive and very spiritual,” said Visitor. “I came in with the situation that was written in the pilot [Emissary and that’s what they liked. They wanted the aggression that I brought. From there, she evolved in seven years.”


Dorn Kickstarter Project Launches

Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine‘s Michael Dorn has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a romance comedy, Through the Fire.

The Kickstarter campaign began yesterday and has already raised over $12,000 towards the $750,000 goal, which Dorn hopes to realize by October 5.


Visitor Castle Guest Appearance

Fans of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘s Nana Visitor will be able to see her in an episode of Castle which will air next year.

Castle is a “comedy-drama” starring Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity) as Richard Castle. Castle is a mystery writer who is brought in for questioning by the NYPD after a serial killer uses his novel plots as inspiration for his murders. The author comes along on homicide investigations to assist the team in research and to get inspiration for his writing.


Visitor Guest Appearance In Grimm Tonight

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘s Nana Visitor can be seen tonight in a guest appearance on NBC’s Grimm.

Grimm is “a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, Turn The Beat Around) discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as ‘Grimms,’ charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world.”


Nimoy And De Lancie Re-release Alien Voices Dramas

Fans who missed out on the original release of the Alien Voices audio dramas from Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie can now order these dramas as digital downloads.

Other Star Trek actors from four of the five televised series can also be heard on the audio dramas.


Trek Actors To Appear In Torchwood Series

Last month, TrekToday reported that actor John De Lancie would be appearing in Torchwood: Miracle Day. Today, it was announced that another Trek actor would also be appearing in the series.


Creation Entertainment Star Trek Convention Highlights

Last weekend, fans who attended the Creation Entertainment Official Star Trek Convention were entertained by many actors from various Star Trek series, including Nichelle Nichols, Leonard Nimoy, Grace Lee Whitney, the Duras Sisters, Connor Trinneer, Dominic Keating, Nana Visitor, Rene Auberjonois and other guest stars.

On the first day of the convention, held in San Francisco, Richard Arnold, former assistant to Gene Roddenberry, started things off with a 45th anniversary slideshow and reminisced about 1970s fandom and the birth of the Star Trek conventions.

In the second part of her interview with Star, Nana Visitor talks about her current work, thoughts about Kira Nerys and life after Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Even though she would love to play Kira again, Visitor knows that she will not be doing so. “I never think of playing Major Kira again, but I could and I would in a moment,” she said. “She’s somebody I had difficulty actually dropping. I had to watch myself so that I wasn’t frightening to people or so that I wasn’t a little aggressive in my own life after playing her for seven years. I had to wean myself off of being Major Kira.”


Visitor: Romance With Siddig Inevitable

Although Nana Visitor had no intention of falling in love with Alexander Siddig, when it happened she realized it was meant to be.

When Visitor met Siddig, she was married with a baby (her son Buster). “[The relationship] was actually a shock,” she said. “You can’t forget that I was married, with a baby, when I met him, and he was twenty-four years old. So I kind of always saw him as a very young man and off limits. There was no question.”

Nana Visitor, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘s Kira Nerys, has teamed up with Kim Montalvo to create a new gourmet baking business, Un Petit Morceau.

After Visitor’s work in ABC’s Wildfire series ended in 2008, the two friends, who met in Corrales, New Mexico, decided to start a business. “We wanted something that was no pressure and sheer delight,” said Visitor. Un Petit Morceau , which means “a small morsel” in French, was born.


Creation Hopes To Break Guiness World Record At Vegas Convention This Week

In addition to hosting over seventy Star Trek celebs at their annual Las Vegas Star Trek Convention, running this week from Thursday through Sunday at the Las Vegas Hilton, Creation Entertainment is gunning for the Guiness World Record for the “largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters.”
