Back in 2007, it was announced that Abrams and Lindelof would be involved in the project, and the assumption was that development would get going after Lost finishes next year, but according to Abrams, they won’t be adapting the book series. “The Dark Tower thing is tricky,” said Abrams. “It’s such an important piece of writing. The truth is that Damon and I are not looking at that right now.”

Abrams is plenty busy with other projects such as Star Trek XII, Mission: Impossible 4 and Micronauts, so the odds of him getting back to it are not good.

It is unknown if the project will go forth, but director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) has shown interest in making the movies.
