Zinkievich On Future Star Trek: Online

Star Trek: Online Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich talks about the success of the Star Trek: Online release and explains what is in store for its future.

Other than some server issues, the release of Star Trek: Online went well, according to Zinkievich. “We were just blown away,” he said. “Aside from some server stuff, and I think we handled that extremely well, launch was just great. The amount of people interested in the game was staggering and humbling, and we’re really dedicated to keeping those people happy for the long-term.”

Star Trek Online: STF Mission Details

Details of the Star Trek: Online Special Task Force (STF) missions, introduced earlier this month, are available for players.

“Infected,” the first STF, in which players travel to the Sibiran system to investigate Starbase 82 (which has been taken over by the Borg) was introduced first. “Infected” was followed on March 18 by “The Cure.”

Star Trek Online: Forthcoming Updates

Star Trek: Online will be releasing updates to their MMORPG game in the next week and a list of what will be added or changed lets players know what to expect.

The changes will affect PvP, customization, ships, missions and skills. In addition, new items are offered for sale in the “C-Store” and lifetime subscriber perks are described.

Zinkievich On Star Trek Online Post-Launch

Now that Star Trek: Online is out, it’s time for the developers to use the feedback from the players to improve the game, as well as looking towards future additions.

Star Trek: Online‘s Executive Producer, Craig Zinkievich, described the mood of the development team, now that the game has been launched. “Everyone’s relieved that the game has finally made it to shelves, and we’re getting some real, live feedback from people across the globe,” he said.

Star Trek Online: Popularity Will Determine Future Additions

If Star Trek: Online is embraced by gamers, expect to see such things as further “full-scale” releases/packs to complement the game in future. “Much will depend on the success of Star Trek Online,” said Zinkievich. “We would love for this game to do well, not just because it will earn us money, but because we’re all huge Star Trek fans.”

Quinto: Stepping Away From Trek For A While

Star Trek XI‘s Zachary Quinto will be away from the world of Star Trek and sci-fi for a few years.

Fans hoping to see Quinto at conventions or other Trek functions will be disappointed by his latest comments to Wired.com in a telephone interview recently. “I’m stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years, no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while.”

Atari And Syfy Star Trek Online Partnership

Atari and Syfy have announced an exclusive partnership promoting the highly anticipated Star Trek: Online MMORPG, which releases for the PC on February 2.

To celebrate the launch of Star Trek: Online, Syfy will air a two day Star Trek marathon. On Monday, February 1 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.  Star Trek: Enterprise episodes will air.  On February 2 from 8 A.M. to 9 P.M. episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation will be featured.

Star Trek Online Beta Extended

111909CSTOFans who want a bit more time to test drive Star Trek: Online, take heart, as the Open Beta has been extended.

“We’ve experienced such an incredible response to our Open Beta Test that we’ve decided to extend the play time by a full day as a thank you to our fans,” said an announcement on the official website. “If you haven’t yet had an opportunity to check it out, come give us a look. We’ve made impressive changes, improvements and additions to Star Trek Online and the infrastructure that maintains it over the past two weeks of Open Beta. We would love for you to experience it all before we engage at maximum warp and officially launch on February 2, 2010.”

The extra time won’t affect the planned head start for the pre-order customers.

The Open Beta will remain operational until Tuesday, January 26, at 6:00 P.M. Pacific time.
