Star Trek: Online Turns One

A year ago, Star Trek: Online, the Star Trek-themed MMORPG, debuted and the game continues to evolve and change.

Star Trek: Online Executive Producer Daniel Stahl updated fans on the progress of the game, and thanked them for their patronage. “This last year has been a great one for Star Trek: Online and I can’t emphasize enough how much fans have contributed to our success,” he said.


Star Trek Online Wins Awards

Star Trek Online has won five “Best of 2010″ award from the Massively MMO blog, beating out such games as Lego Universe and Final Fantasy XIV.

The Star Trek Online MMORPG was released in January 2010 and has been continuously updated with new seasons and episodes.


Star Trek Online Offers Design Contest

Creative Star Trek fans who would like to try their hand at designing the next Enterprise ship for the Star Trek: Online game will get their chance to do so next month.

Star Trek: Online is offering the “Design the Next Enterprise” contest, which will begin on December 9. Fans will be able to submit their designs and the best one will become a ship in the Star Trek: Online game.


Star Trek Online Season Three To Debut

Next month, Star Trek Online‘s Season Three: Genesis will be released.

Fans who wish to create their own mission for Star Trek Online will be able to do so when The Foundry enters public beta along with the release of Season Three. Fans will be able to create episodes, and share them with other players.


Free-to-play Star Trek Online?

After Cryptic Studios and Atari announced that the MMO Champions Online will become free-to-play next year, players are wondering if Star Trek: Online could be next.

With Champions Online, players will  be able to download the game and not be obliged to pay a monthly subscription fee, which they must currently do. Atari hopes that premium content, including costumes, adventures packs and new superpowers, will bring in sufficient revenue for them.


Star Trek Online Update

A new Star Trek: Online series and episode will debut this week featuring a new race of hostile beings who threaten both Starfleet personnel and Klingon warriors.

Series 2: The Devidians, will debut on October 16 with the first episode in this latest series, Skirmish.


Successful Fan Campaign To Bring Masterson To STO

A campaign started by a fan on the Star Trek Online messageboards to have the voice talents of actress Chase Masterson (Leeta) included in Star Trek Online was successful and players can now hear her as “Holo Leeta.”

The campaign began back in March, when the fan, Kirkfat, contacted Masterson and got her permission to try to convince Cryptic. “I’d love to do this,” Masterson said. Kirkfat started a thread on the STO messageboards to gather support.


Star Trek Online Season Two Releases

Star Trek: Online has released its second season, “Ancient Enemies” with new episodes, rewards and content.

In “Ancient Enemies,” players will “encounter and do battle with even more of Star Trek‘s iconic races,” as they enjoy new episodes including eight Klingon episodes.


Star Trek Online Launches Architect

Atari has announced the launch of Star Trek Online Architect, a web-based ship building game.

In Star Trek Online Architect, fans can create and assemble their own ships, and for a limited time, enter a sweepstakes where the prizes range from a replica TOS captain’s chair to copies of Star Trek Online.


Zinkievich To Leave Cryptic Studios

Star Trek: Online Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich posted his farewell letter on the official Star Trek: Online site today.

After seven years at Cryptic Studios and two-and-a-half working with Star Trek: Online, Zinkievich will be leaving to be replaced by Daniel Stahl.


New Star Trek Online Items

A new installment of Ask Cryptic, where questions from Star Trek: Online players are answered by the developers of the MMORPG game, has been posted.

Some of the questions include new ship tiers, mini-games, going beyond the Galactic Barrier, Exploration missions, missions on canon worlds such as Vulcan and Andoria, and Q.

Star Trek:Online Starship Class Poll

Star Trek: Online players who would like to have input into which starship class they would like to see next in the MMORPG are encouraged to head to the official site and make their starship class preference known.

There are six classes from which to choose, all six from canon Star Trek. Players may choose from the following classes: Excelsior, Nebula, Oberth, Enterprise J, NX Enterprise and Ambassador.
