Sorry Shatner; No Vulcan!

Back in February, TrekToday reported that William Shatner‘s campaign to have one of two Pluto moons given the name Vulcan had resulted in a first place finish in the voting, but today comes the news that the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has thumbed its nose at the voters.

Vulcan had finished first in the voting, with 174,062 votes, followed by Cerberus which was second with 99,432 votes.

The Captains Sequel Heads To DVD

The Captains Close Up, the sequel to William Shatner‘s 2011 The Captains, will make its debut on DVD this summer.

In the five-part documentary mini-series, Shatner interviewed the actors who played the captains of the Enterprise.

Two Shatner Bobbleheads And Lunchboxes

A set of bobblehead and lunchboxes will debut at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con featuring William Shatner.

Two of Shatner’s most famous roles are depicted in the set: Captain James T. Kirk , and airline passenger Bob Wilson from The Twilight Zone’s Nightmare at 20,000 feet.

Shatner To Guest on TV Land Comedy

William Shatner will be a guest star on the summer premiere of TV Land‘s Hot in Cleveland.

Hot in Cleveland is the story of several women in their forties who end up unexpectedly in the city when their Paris-bound flight makes an emergency landing . They decide to stay in a city where they are still considered “hot.”

Abrams took audience suggestions for his work on the next Star Wars film, and the unexpected guests delighted the audience with their appearance and suggestions.

The Captains Close-Up

On May 16 at 8 PM, EPIX will allow viewers to “get up close and personal with all of your favorite Star Trek captains” in a new exclusive series, and TrekToday U.S. readers can enter to win a poster!

The series, The Captains Close-Up, features interviews conducted by William Shatner, and includes former Star Trek captains Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Patrick Stewart, and Scott Bakula.

Trek Fan Record Falls Short

A group of fans in Dallas failed to break the Guinness World Record for people dressed as Star Trek characters.

The fans were attending a Texas Lottery event where the draws were the appearance of William Shatner as host of the event, and the attempt to set the world record.

Shatner In Evans Video

William Shatner made a guest appearance at Boston’s historic Fenway Park to star in singer Brian Evans’s music video.

The video was shot during a Red Sox game last fall and will appear on Evans’s CD/DVD album At Fenway, due out April 1st.

Vulcan Wins!

The final tally for the vote to name two moons of Pluto is in, and Vulcan has outpaced all its competitors.

Vulcan, and the second-place finisher, Cerberus, were the two top vote getters, with only Vulcan receiving over one hundred thousand votes.

Shatner Suggests Pluto Moon Names

A day after Internet users were asked to help name the fourth and fifth moons of Pluto, one of William Shatner‘s two suggestions has been added to the list of twelve put forth by the discoverers of those two moons.

The two tiny moons, only fifteen to twenty miles across each, were discovered in 2011 and 2012 and carry the labels P4 and P5.

Shatner Disses Abrams

William Shatner recently gave his tongue-in-cheek opinion regarding the news that J.J. Abrams will be directing Star Wars.

“I was just curious what you thought about J.J. Abrams taking Star Trek and Star Wars and if there’s a homogenization of sci-fi or if you think there’s enough for everyone,” the actor was asked.
