While out promoting her latest film, The Words, Zoë Saldana spoke about returning to work on Star Trek 2.

In The Words, Saldana is playing the wife of an aspiring writer who becomes famous after finding an old manuscript which he takes and uses as his own work.

Saldana was as fashionable as ever at Sundance in spite of the cold weather. “I did bring warm stuff,” she said, wearing green suede shoes with stiletto heels instead of more practical footwear, “but I also bought fashion-y stuff. Come on. You’ve got to pay the price, even if it’s too cold.”

Star Trek 2 is Saldana’s current movie project, and she spoke about her eagerness to work with those associated with the rebooted Star Trek again. “It’s wonderful because I’ve been dying to work with the cast again, to work with J.J.,” she said. “I love him so much. He’s such an amazing human being and such an amazing storyteller and a great director, so what more can I ask for? I start the year and I’m literally going back to a very familiar environment and being a part of a great story.”

Star Trek XI‘s Zoë Saldana came to the aid of an injured woman after witnessing a car accident in Los Angeles.

The collision took place in Culver City, and Saldana and another passer-by helped an injured woman out of her car, got her seated, and then Saldana used her cellphone to call 911.

Saldana stayed with the woman until the ambulance arrived, making sure the woman was going to be OK before she left.

Saldana is rumored to be dating Bradley Cooper, the actor deemed 2011′s “Sexiest Man Alive” according to People Magazine.

Rumors of the romance began to surface last month, but were denied at the time. A source “close to the couple,” says that “They are totally dating.”

Saldana and Cooper were planning to go skiing together in the Rockies over the holidays, according to the same source.

Cooper is best-known for his roles in The Hangover, The A-Team, Wedding Crashers and Limitless. He recently co-starred with Saldana in The Words, a thriller due out next year.

The pair, who became engaged in June of 2010, has “amicably separated after eleven years,” said Saldana’s representative.

Saldana hasn’t yet made a statement regarding the split, but she tweeted on Friday that “‘You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.’ – Buddha.”

Saldana and Britton are co-founders of My Fashion Data Base and will continue to work together on it. “Saldana and Britton remain committed business partners as co-founders of fashion resource MyFDB.com,” said Saldana’s representative. “Respect of their privacy is appreciated during this time.”

In lieu of an official title, the sequel to 2009′s Star Trek has been called Star Trek 2 by many, but according to an unnamed source, the movie won’t keep that title.

“[Star Trek 2] will begin shooting in mid-January,” said Access Hollywood, quoting an anonymous source. “[it] won’t be called Star Trek 2.”

Other actors slated to appear in the sequel have also mentioned January as a start date. Zoë Saldana was the most recent to speak about the movie, saying “We still haven’t gotten a script yet.”

Saldana wants to know where the Spock-Uhura romance will go in the next movie. “I’m really curious,” she said, “and I’m pretty sure that Zach [Quinto] is as well.”

“I love so many designers,” she said. “From the older iconic ones like Lanvin, [and] Givenchy, [and] I’ve got Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Diane von Furstenberg and Calvin Klein. I wore an amazing Louis Vuitton dress to the Golden Globes.”

But even famous designers are not enough, the clothes must look right on Saldana. “But I look to find myself in them and not to get lost in them,” she said. “So if I see an outfit from a designer that I really feel will complement my personality and I know that I would wear it well, I will definitely fight for it.”

Saldana has her own website, MyFDB, created with her fiancé Keith Britton. The website attempts to list every magazine shoot in which cover and campaign models, make-up artists and celebrities have been involved. “It’s really for anyone who loves fashion magazines, luxury brands, celebrities, models,” said Saldana. “You can browse them all.”

As a woman of color, Saldana has experienced racism throughout her life, and that includes her time as an actress.
“I’ve witnessed racism all my life,” she said. “And of course there’s racism and discrimination in Hollywood. You go for a part and they say, ‘Oh, we really liked her, she’s amazing, but we wanted to go with something more traditional’. As if I’m not a traditional American!”

But Saldana doesn’t hate back in return, although the racism must be galling. “I feel sorry for people like that,” she said. “They need to educate themselves. Mostly you move on and say, ‘Well, I wasn’t meant to work with you or be around someone like you’. Other times you might say, ‘You’re ignorant, you’re a racist. That’s it. I’m out of here!”

It’s not just African-Americans, and/or actors that are the recipients of racist attitudes. According to Saldana. America itself is facing the same repugnant attitude from those gloating over its recent woes. “It’s trendy to hate Americans right now,” she said. “Deep down, some people are enjoying the fact that the most powerful nation on Earth is struggling a little – and then they deny that’s racist! And that frightens me.”

“If I think about it in that fashion than yes (it’s scary,)” Saldana said. “I wouldn’t want to think about it in that way.”

“But I have been inspired by amazing actresses that have taken amazing risks and opened amazing doors, and I am a product of that and I am honored to be included in a group of women that have defied their own gravity,” Saldana admitted. “Besides playing amazing character roles they also have an amazing agility to do action.”

Saldana enjoys doing her own stunts whenever she’s permitted to do so, even with the inevitable pain that can follow. “Thank God no permanent injuries, but I was definitely very, very sore,” she said. “It’s always a lot of work and it’s exhausting while you’re doing it and your training for it,” she said. “But once you see it on the silver screen it’s such an amazing reward and only because you are proud of what you do but also because you’re representing all the professionals that that invested their time and their work to train you. To know that they are proud makes me feel very, very good.”

Colombiana, Saldana’s most recent film, opens today.

Zoë Saldana (Uhura) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov) will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight. They will be promoting their latest movies; Colombiana for Saldana and Fright Night for Yelchin.

Saldana wanted to create a site similar to IMDB but for fashion professionals. “Before MyFDB, there wasn’t any website giving fashion professionals’ credit where credit is due for their work,” she said. “We were inspired to level the playing field for them while organizing the industry by fashion credits. Soon we will be launching MyFDB Vintage that will cover the iconic and timeless magazine covers and ad campaigns from decades past.”
