Gene Roddenberry‘s classic series The Lieutenant will be released tomorrow.
The show, consisting of twenty-nine episodes filmed in 1963 and 1964, has been restored and will be “accompanied by an unseen theatrical iteration of the show.”

Two Rod Roddenberry films will debut at San Diego Comic-con next month, with the news that White Room: 02B3 will be screened as well as the fan documentary Trek Nation.
White Room:02B3, starring Brecklin Meyer, Tamlyn Tomita, David Blue and Rachel True, is the “story of six strangers who wake up in a white room to find out they are part of a bizarre experiment that could help change the face of humanity forever.”

Trek Nation, Rod Roddenberry‘s “journey to discover his father and the creation that helped define science fiction,” has been nominated for a Saturn Award.
The Saturn Awards, founded in 1972, are presented each year by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films and honors science fiction, fantasy, and horror in film, television, and home video.
Airing tomorrow, November 30, on the Science Channel at 8 PM, Trek Nation, produced and narrated by Rod Roddenberry, is a documentary about Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek, and the people involved with Star Trek over the years.
In making Trek Nation, Rod Roddenberry interviewed those who worked with his father over the years, including industry professionals who knew Gene Roddenberry, family friends, and Star Trek fans.
Back in 1964, Gene Roddenberry submitted a sixteen-page pitch for a new series to be called Star Trek and fans can now see that pitch online in its entirety.
The pitch, part of which has been published before, includes a description of the characters and some ideas which became episodes during the run of Star Trek.
In the first part of a four-part PBS series on the pioneers of television, science fiction shows including Star Trek will featured.
Several of the original series actors were profiled for the special, including William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols.
The San Diego Zoo has named one of a pair of twin Sumatran tiger cubs after Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.
The cub, born in October, was named in honor of Roddenberry, said Rod Roddenberry, son of Majel. “For those who do not know, my mother was a staunch animal supporter,” he said. “Her favorites were cats, large or small … her passion for them knew no bounds.”
Strange New World, the third Gene Roddenberry-inspired 1970s TV pilot attempt following Genesis II and Planet Earth, is now available on DVD for the first time.
In 1975, Strange New World, a post-apocalypse story made without Roddenberry’s participation but based on his idea and characters (including John Saxon of Planet Earth), was made, but like Genesis II and Planet Earth, Strange New World was not picked up as a regular series.
Scott Colthorp, director of Trek Nation, a Star Trek documentary in progress, and Rod Roddenberry, son of Gene Roddenberry, seek to make a film unlike previous Star Trek documentaries such as Trekkies.
It’s not easy being a Star Trek fan, with the average public’s perception of the typical Star Trek fan being shaped by films such as 1997′s Trekkies as well as William Shatner‘s Get A Life skit on Saturday Night Live in the 1980s.
Fans looking to obtain Star Trek memorabilia once owned by Gene Roddenberry should attend an auction to be held in Las Vegas in June.
The sale, to be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on June 27, will benefit charity, with the proceeds going to the Roddenberry Foundation.
In a recent interview with Airlock Alpha, Rod Roddenberry gave his opinion regarding who would be the best choice to play the android Questor in The Questor Tapes.
“I’m not immersed in the industry right now,” said Roddenberry, “and I don’t have a whole list of names I could pull out a hat. I come from the point of view of a fan, a fan of Star Trek and a fan of Gene Roddenberry.”
The Television Hall of Fame ceremony will honor seven inductees into the Hall of Fame this evening and amongst the inductees are Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek creator.

An eight-minute interview taken from the 1976 Inside Star Trek LP is available at Roddenberry.com
In 1976, Inside Star Trek was released, which was a look at the development of Star Trek as well as the story of Gene Roddenberry. One of the tracks on the album, “William Shatner meets Captain Kirk,” can be heard at Roddenberry.com and has Roddenberry and William Shatner asking each other questions and answering the questions posed by each other.
Two shows that Gene Roddenberry developed after Star Trek will be offered on DVD beginning next Tuesday.
After Star Trek was canceled, Roddenberry developed Genesis II and Planet Earth. 1973′s Genesis II was about a NASA scientist (Dylan Hunt, played by Alex Cord,) who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic Earth in 2133 due to a suspended animation failure. He is discovered by the “PAX” team who are some of the last remaining scientists left in the world.
