Although he planned to play sports, Chris Pine discovered that acting was his real passion.
With a family genealogy of actors, it was no surprise that acting called to Pine. “My grandmother was an actress too,” said Pine. “In the thirties and forties she was under contract with Universal Studios. Crazy credits, lots of them. My dad was also under contract with Universal Studios. And my first film was shot on the same stage they both worked on at Universal. Crazy, right?”

Last month, TrekToday reported on Alex Kurtzman‘s first film directing job, Welcome to People; and now word comes that Chris Pine is in talks for the lead role in the movie.
Welcome to People was written by Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jody Lambert, and is the story “of a struggling twenty-something man who, after flying home to L.A. for the funeral of his estranged record-producer father, discovers that the will stipulates that he must deliver $150,000 in cash to a 30-year-old alcoholic sister he never knew existed, and her troubled twelve-year-old son. Determined to keep the money to solve his own problems, he’s nonetheless fascinated by his unknown kin and makes contact with the two without revealing who he really is.”
Pine is currently filming FOX’s This Means War and will next appear in November in the Fox thriller Unstoppable.

Although he seems to be doing quite well as an actor, Chris Pine was more interested in sports when he was younger.
Some actors know from childhood that they want to act, but for Pine, he didn’t discover acting until he went to college and got involved in theater. “It satisfied everything I enjoyed about using your mind and being in front of people and the charge of that,” he said.

Starting this weekend, Christopher Pine (James T. Kirk) will be appearing in The Lieutenant of Irishmore, a dark comedy playing at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Speaking to OC Register to promote the play, Pine said that his Trek role has allowed him to take on a wide variety of interesting roles:
“I’ve been really blessed from Star Trek to get more opportunities than I had previously in my career. And I just wait for the good material. I’ve been lucky in that I’ve gotten to play on the really big stage with [Denzel Washington] and Tony Scott [Pine will star in the upcoming Scott film Unstoppable with Washington]. Counter that with these theater productions, which are a whole different thing. I just try to follow what’s good and what interests me and challenges me and makes me think and engages a part of me. It’s so rare to get all of your muscles firing at once. That’s what I look for in any role.
