The 82nd Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 7 at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles at 8 P.M. and Pine will be on hand with other stars to help present the awards.

This is Pine’s first time as a presenter and he joins other presenters such as:

Captain America first appeared in Timely Comics in March of 1941. The alter ego of Steve Rogers, Captain America’s powers were the result of an enhancement due to an experimental serum. Originally, Captain America assisted the U.S. during World War II, fighting against the Axis.

According to the Paramount source, “Anyway, just thought you guys might like to know that Paramount and Marvel are pretty close to closing a deal on casting Steve Rogers/Captain America and fans might be excited to learn that the short list includes somebody a lot of fans speculated about, Chris Pine. From what I’m hearing, he’s the frontrunner right now, though that could change. Can’t tell you who the other couple of choices are, cause that’ll work against me for reasons I don’t want to get into.”

The First Avenger: Captain America, directed by Joe Johnston, is due out next summer.

Fans of Star Trek XI will find out tonight if any of the five People’s Choice nominations for the movie will be chosen as winners.

The five nominations for Star Trek XI are for Favorite Breakout Movie Actress, Favorite Franchise, Favorite Breakout Movie Actor (two nominations) and Favorite Movie.

Zoë Saldana will be up against Anna Kendrick, Emily Osment, Ginnifer Goodwin and Miley Cyrus for Favorite Breakout Movie Actress.

Two Star Trek XI actors, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, will vie against each other and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sam Worthington and Taylor Lautner for Favorite Breakout Movie Actor.

Star Trek XI is up against The Hangover, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, The Proposal and Twilight for Favorite Movie.

For Favorite Franchise, Star Trek is up against Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga, Transformers and X-Men.

Going from being a relativity unknown actor to the star in one of 2009’s hottest films has meant coming to the attentions of the paparazzi, who are relentless in their pursuit of someone when they think there is a story of interest.

When it came to Pine, the photogs were convinced that something was going on between him and Audrina Patridge (MTV’s The Hills.)

“I certainly despise [the paparazzi] with all my soul,” said Pine. “In terms of the private life stuff, I understood what would or could happen because of my involvement in something so big, but you don’t really understand it until it starts happening and people are waiting outside your house. And I live in an apartment on a busy street. It was pretty brutal when the movie first came out, and then it dies down and the paparazzi lose their interest and go after the next flavor of the day.”

Fame isn’t all bad though. “I would say that artistically it’s been everything I wanted, said Pine. “Star Trek has afforded me the luxury of choice in terms of what I want to do and where I want to take my career. I don’t know how long that will last for, but certainly right now I’m enjoying that immensely.”

And what about the paparazzi? They’re part of the “deal with the devil you make,” he said.

It’s a relief to Abrams that Star Trek XI has been well-received because pleasing fans of a show that has been around since the 1960s is not easy.

During an interview, Abrams was asked if he agreed that he had made Star Trek cooler than Star Wars for the first time. “You’re asking a dangerous question, my friend,” he replied. “I don’t know how you respond to that without sounding like a douche bag. Why don’t you just put a bull’s-eye on my head? You know, making a film knowing there were so many fans out there was nerve-racking. I was behind the camera. Chris, Zach, Zoe, John, Simon, Karl, everyone in front of the camera, they were the ones literally putting themselves out there and asking for it. The fact that we were accepted and helped by Mr. Nimoy building that bridge between what was and what is now, it was incredibly gratifying to see it was well-received.”

Both Abrams and Chris Pine admitted to nerves and a bit of worry. For Abrams, keeping busy helped keep that at bay. “Because we had an ambitious shoot, the good news was that often drowned out the din of naysayers and the suspicious fan base and even the enthusiastic supporters,” he said. “We were so busy, we were just trying to focus on that and not let the nerves of ‘What are they going to think?’ get to us.”

For Pine, a sense of responsibility took hold after the euphoria of getting the part of James T. Kirk settled. “After I got [the part] and then talking to J.J., the nerves kind of slowly built, because as an actor, and as someone who wants to make a living doing what he loves doing, I was happy to get the part, and that lasts for about 15 minutes, and you call everyone you know and make plans to move out of your parents’ house,” he said. “And then the reality of the situation sets in. Not only is it a tremendous amount of responsibility because of all the money involved, but it’s also a franchise that’s beloved and it’s William Shatner to boot. After being scared shitless, I let it go. The fact that we could be eviscerated or succeed was actually liberating.”

The 2010 People’s Choice Awards will be given at a ceremony on January 6th at the Nokia Theater, L.A. Live in Los Angeles. Queen Latifah will be the ceremony host.

Although talks have just begun, Pine is expected to join The Art of Making Money as Ryan when it begins filming next year.

Jack Ryan is a character taken from a dozen Tom Clancy novels written between 1984 and 2003. The character has been played in the past by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October,) Harrison Ford (Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger,) and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears.)

The Art of Making Money will be directed by D.J. Caruso and based on an original concept. Hossein Amini (Wings of the Dove) is writing the draft script.

“Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan,” said Paramount President Adam Goodman. “With Chris in this role, we’ve taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise.”

Pine will also be seen in Unstoppable, where he will join Denzel Washington in the Tony Scott-directed film, due out next November.

The Fourth Annual Scream awards, honoring the best in science-fiction, fantasy, horror and comics, will be taped in Los Angeles on October 17 and will air on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 27 at 10 P.M.

“Getting nominated for kissing a Vulcan is a better fate than logic,” said  Saldana, nominated for Best Breakout Performance: Female and Best Science Fiction Actress.

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, when asked about the status of the sequel to Star Trek XI, Pine admitted that his knowledge was meager. “People have been asking us and I know as much as anybody else,” he said. “I know that they want to get stuff going for 2011, so I don’t know if that means we’ll shoot next year or what, but I haven’t heard anything one way or the other.”
As to whether the cast from the first movie be returning for the sequel, Pine was more confident. “As far as I know [they're returning], yeah,” he said.

Pine also spoke about the success of Star Trek XI and what surprised him most about it. “I think really the big thing I’ve been surprised by is how many people who weren’t fans…we were able to kind of grab into the fold,” said Pine “To make Star Trek accessible to a wider audience and to a new generation of fans is a wonderful thing, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the second one.”
