If a Twitter posting by Writer/Director Edgar Wright and  Star Trek XI‘s Simon Pegg‘s blog picture today are to be believed, the two men have turned their attentions to The World’s End.

Pegg’s blog shows the two standing in front of a chart that says, “The World’s End,” while Wright’s Twitter picture show the same picture, with the caption, “Hard at work.”

The World’s End would complete a trilogy which began with 2004′s Shaun of the Dead and 2007′s Hot Fuzz.

“It’s all a ‘go.’ I’m preparing to fly out to L.A. in the new year and start working on Star Trek,” he said. “I can’t wait to get back to it. I do love Scotty and it’s so much fun playing him.”

“I love the way he was portrayed in the last film,” said Pegg. “Scotty is slightly annoyed. He has been abandoned on this planet. Now, he’s abroad the Enterprise looking after this big sexy ship.”

Although Pegg has become more high profile after his parts in both the Star Trek and Mission Impossible movies, don’t expect him to change much. “I don’t involve myself in a celebrity lifestyle,” he said. “I’m not famous for being me, which is so much nicer than being famous for no reason other than that you’re a celebrity. It’s the roles that make me sort of interesting.”

Filming begins on Star Trek 2 this month.

Pegg and Tom Cruise went go-carting during a break from shooting Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. “It was such fun,” said Pegg. “It’s nice to penetrate the noxious cloud of myth that surrounds him.”

Cruise had rented out the entire go-cart center for the day so that he could unwind. “…it occurred to me this was the only way he could have that level of relaxation,” said Pegg.

“Sometimes we’re hanging out and it’s just me and Tom at a hockey game,” said Pegg. “But sometimes he puts on his sunglasses and smiles and it’s like, ‘Oh my god, it’s you.’”

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is currently appearing in theaters.

Simon Pegg and Bryan Burk recently nixed Star Trek 2 Khan rumors, or did they?

Will he, or won’t he, is the question being asked by Star Trek fans, who are wondering if Star Trek 2 will see the return of Khan Noonien Singh.

Pegg hasn’t seen the script, but neither has he heard anything about Khan either. “I haven’t heard the name Khan come up,” he said. “Not to say it won’t come up, but I have heard no mention of him whatsoever. He is a great villain. I don’t want to say too much and then have to eat my words as I often do, but we’ve seen Khan. To see him again, how much value is there in that? I don’t know.”

Burk, when asked about Khan in Star Trek 2, said “There are amazing villains all throughout the Star Trek universe as well as new villains,” he said. “As we did in the last film, there’s a lot of directions you can go with the film. In this case, we chose to do something we thought would be original and unique and different, and I think on paper, we made the right choice. Now we have to go shoot.”

One thing Star Trek 2 will see is a quick start compared to Star Trek XI, where characters needed to be established first. “Unlike the last film, where we were restarting and setting up the characters … we’re going to jump right back in, and we don’t have to set up everybody and we can go right in it,” said Burk. “We’re kind of in a mad dash at the beginning of the film. In all of our conversation, we reference a lot of our favorite films and how Empire Strikes Back was spectacular and how they were able to pick up and keep going.”

The actor, best-known to Star Trek fans for his role of Scotty, believes that fans will like what they see, too. “It’s more of what we love as Star Trek fans…,” he said. “What’s not to love?”

Although he knows some plot details, Pegg has yet to see the script for Star Trek 2. “I haven’t seen a script yet,” he said. “I do know the story, though. I know part of the story, but we haven’t seen a script yet. We’re gonna see it soon. I think next week.”

In other Star Trek 2 news, producer Bryan Burk was at the same function as Pegg, and in answering a question, almost gave out a bit of information regarding the title of the Abrams sequel. “Oh, we’re not calling it Star Trek 2 anymore,” he said. “Just…” and then Burk stopped, realizing that he had almost let something slip.

This time, Abrams is teaming with screenwriter Billy Ray on the untitled project, which is said to be a mystery adventure. The project has been purchased by Paramount.

Abrams will be directing Star Trek 2, and those associated with the sequel are eager to get going, according to postings on Twitter. “I absolutely cannot fucking wait to get back aboard that ship,” tweeted Simon Pegg, Star Trek XI‘s Scotty. “She awaits you with open nacelles,” said Damon Lindelof in reply.

Meanwhile, Roberto Orci interacted with fans over at TrekMovie.com, saying that when it came to progress on Star Trek 2, it was “steady as she goes.” Another fan asked about Bruce Greenwood, hoping to know if Captain Pike would be making a return in the  next movie. “Are you getting this, Bob Orci?” the fan asked. When Orci replied “Yup,” the fan then asked “Does ‘Yup’ mean that you have got my message and/or Bruce Greenwood will appear in the movie.” “Yup,” replied Orci, no doubt to the sound of gnashing teeth.

It should be no surprise that fans hungry for news about Star Trek 2 will be in for another round of closely-guarded secrets, careful answers, and a bit of teasing as this was also the case with the first movie. It’s all part of the fun while waiting for the highly-anticipated sequel.

In The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Tintin and his friends set off to find a treasure left behind by Tintin’s ancestor Sir Francis Haddock. Pegg and Nick Frost will play bumbling detectives Thompson and Thomson.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, starring Tom Cruise, includes several Star Trek alumni amongst its cast and crew. J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producers, Michael Giacchino is composing the music and Simon Pegg is reprising his role of Benji Dunn.

In Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team are blamed for a terrorist bombing which has destroyed the Kremlin and must clear themselves.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol will be released On December 16.

Unlike many Trek fans, Pegg didn’t start out with either the original series or with Star Trek: The Next Generation. He entered the world of Star Trek while watching the animated series as a child. “It was my gateway into Star Trek because I didn’t actually start watching the original series until I was about nine,” he said. “I definitely came across the cartoon first.”

When portraying Scotty, Pegg did not want to channel James Doohan. “I certainly didn’t want to do an impression of James Doohan [but] approach it like [he] did. I’m going to say ‘this is the character and this is how I am going to play it.’”

Even though Star Trek XI showed a humorous Scotty, Pegg would like to show a more serious side of the engineer in Star Trek 2. “When I took the role of Scotty, I never looked at him as a comic character as such,” said Pegg. “He has always been a whimsical character, because of his background, and is almost like an ethnic minority on board ship. There is something lyrical and fanciful about him. There is something about him that has whimsy; they all do at times even Spock. But I always thought that was what was in the script, he was marooned on that planet for a long time and he got on the ship and everything was kicking off and his reaction was almost like our reaction to it all. So yeah I absolutely hope so. I don’t think Scotty is a comic character at all. In this Star Trek he was thrust into everything, and he learned all this stuff about his own discoveries. He was brought on board the ship where everything was crazy and for him, that was a comic situation.

“I would like to hope that in future adventures he can find the sort of depth and seriousness that James Doohan had to tackle in the series.”

Pegg and Nick Frost have already been mulling over the idea of a sequel and what it would take to make that sequel. “The reason I would make a sequel to Paul,” said Pegg, “and I’m sure Greg (Mottola) would probably agree, is because, ultimately, I don’t do my job for anybody but myself.”

The experience of making Paul was something that was very enjoyable for Pegg and he would like to revisit the experience. “The product of what I do is important, but the of making Paul was so much fun,” said Pegg. “I got to work with some amazing people, in an amazing place, and we had an amazing three months. It was life-changing, and I’d love to do that again. If we could think of a story that was absolutely justifiable, that was worth doing, I would do it again, but for that reason, so I could have that experience again and enjoy working with people, the camaraderie and the friendship.

“People often forget that there is a process that exists in film-making. It’s not just the product, there is the process of making a film, which is incredibly enjoyable. The product is the result of that, which everybody sees, but it’s not always why you do it. There is also the product of that, which is fame, which is really why you don’t do it. The chance to work with those people again would be wonderful.”

A story idea for a sequel to Paul has already crossed the minds of Pegg and Frost, but to pull it off, it would mean they would require a bigger budget for the sequel. “Nick and I have this idea that we had out on the way to Area 51 that was really funny,” said Pegg. “It was like oh, this could be great. It would cost an absolute fucking fortune. If it involved more than one Paul, it would mean that we’d have to have twice that budget again. The idea was it was called Pauls. Again, it was like From Dusk Til Shaun, that title is so good we have to make that film.”

Last week, Paul was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK and will appear on American store shelves  on August 9th.
