With filming under way for Star Trek 2, two of the newcomers, Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve, are settling into their jobs, and a familiar face returns briefly to the Trek set.

While promoting his latest film, This Means War, Chris Pine spoke briefly about Cumberbatch and Eve. “They’re getting on great,” he said. “We have a really good, warm, inclusive group from the first one and I think everybody’s kind of getting the hang of things and fitting in quite nicely.”

Meanwhile, if his tweet today is any indication, Leonard Nimoy has made his visit to the Star Trek 2 set, as he announced that he would do last week. “Lots of hugs and handshakes,” said Nimoy. “Like being surrounded by family. So proud to be part of the Star Trek history. LLAP.”

Leonard Nimoy has been offered what most Star Trek fans would love to be given, an invitation to visit the Star Trek 2 set.

“I’ve been invited to visit the set of the new Star Trek film,” said Nimoy via his Twitter feed. “Hope to do that next week.”

The house in which Leonard Nimoy and his wife Sandra resided during the late 1960s while he was working on the original series has been sold.

In 1968, while Nimoy was playing Spock on Star Trek, he and wife Sandra Zober purchased a house in the Westwood-area of Los Angeles.

Mariette Hartley‘s role as Zarabeth in the original series episode All Our Yesterdays is still a fan favorite, and the actress remembers her guest appearance very well, even forty-odd-years later.

But Hartley is surprised that she’s not the only one who remembers the role after so many years. “[People are] still fascinated by [Zarabeth],” she said, after attending last summer’s Creation Entertainment Official Star Trek Convention. “I’m just so stunned. I go there and it’s like going to a foreign country, with so many people in different costumes, dressed as different characters. I’ve met a few Borg, actually. It’s so bizarre and wonderful, and I kept thinking, ‘Are they going to have things like this for Grey’s Anatomy in 20 years?’ This has such a very special heat, still, to it.”

Star Trek fans watching the Emmys last night were treated to a skit in which Leonard Nimoy appeared alongside Jane Lynch.

Nimoy took on the role at the last moment after Alec Baldwin withdrew after a joke of his mocking the Rupert Murdoch phone scandal was cut from the skit. “They edited out a line and he asked them to not air the segment,” a friend of Baldwin’s explained. “He didn’t want to do something that had been edited afterwards because if it’s comedy and you take out a key line, it just doesn’t work.”

Leonard Nimoy admitted on Twitter today that while he is hanging up his Vulcan ears as far as Star Trek conventions go, don’t be surprised to see him pop up on TV every now and then.

“Chicago Oct. 1&2 is my final con appearance,” he said. “I have promised a couple acting appearances which may still crop up. LLAP.”

Nimoy will be appearing in his last Star Trek convention in early October at the Official Star Trek Convention to be held September 30-Oct 1 at the Westin O’Hare Hotel in Chicago. Other Star Trek actors in attendance will be: Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, Nichelle Nichols, John de Lancie, Dominic Keating, Connor Trinneer, Nana Visitor, Rene Auberjonois and Arlene Martel.

Fans who missed out on the original release of the Alien Voices audio dramas from Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie can now order these dramas as digital downloads.

Other Star Trek actors from four of the five televised series can also be heard on the audio dramas.

Leonard Nimoy has made known his position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Like many Americans, Nimoy doesn’t like to see the never-ending conflict in the Middle East. “I reach out to you as someone who is troubled to see the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians continue apparently without an end in sight,” he said.

In a recent interview, Leonard Nimoy explained why people liked Spock and what playing the half-Vulcan, half-Human character meant career-wise, as well as why he decided to play Spock again in J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek XI.

There was a time when Nimoy struggled to find acting jobs that weren’t related to the pointy-eared Vulcan character that he had made famous. “During that period (mid-1970s), I had a struggle,” he said. “I was busy. I had no problem finding work. But the work pretty much was related to the Spock character. I was, on the one hand, happy to be working because I know what it’s like to be an out-of-work actor. But at the same time I was hoping to broaden my scope, and eventually I did.”

Leonard Nimoy, who just can’t seem to retire, will be heard in a new project, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

This is not the first time that Nimoy has done voice work for Transformers; in 1986 Nimoy voiced Galvatron in 1986′s The Transformers: The Movie.

Although Leonard Nimoy will be popping up at various places in the next year, don’t expect to see him in Star Trek XII.

At almost eighty, Nimoy keeps busy, but he’s not the workaholic that his co-star, William Shatner, a week older than Nimoy, is. “We’re very similar in a lot of ways, but on the other hand, very different,” said Nimoy. “He has this great need to be working, working, working, working, working. I’ve asked him at times why, and I’m not sure that we’ve ever really come to a very clear answer of why he wants to work so much and so hard. We’re different. We’re different.”

Leonard Nimoy shared his thoughts regarding the first six Star Trek movies; what worked, what didn’t and what he wishes had happened in the final original series movie.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture wasn’t very well-received by fans, but was successful enough to warrant a second film. “The feeling was, after that first movie, there was something to be done with Star Trek,” said Nimoy, “that the first movie hadn’t done what was available to be done, that there was still an audience, still an interest, but that it didn’t satisfy the audience in terms of content.”

Although his eightieth birthday is fast approaching, Leonard Nimoy is still quite quite busy with acting, appearances and his photography career.

Most people at eighty would be retired if circumstances permitted them to do so, but Nimoy, who announced his retirement more than once recently, keeps getting sucked back into work and convention appearances. “I did it [Fringe appearance],” said Nimoy. “One episode.”
