Rumor had it that Stewart would be working on Mad Max: Fury Road, possibly with Tom Hardy (Star Trek: Nemesis), as TrekToday and others reported recently, but Stewart’s publicist set the record straight, saying that the rumors were untrue.

Fans will have to be content with watching Stewart on other projects, including his appearance on tonight’s Frontline (Digital Nation), which airs on PBS. On Digital Nation, Stewart and others will talk about what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world.

Stewart talks about his love of technology on the show, including the Internet as well as  his beloved iPhone, but not Twitter, which Stewart doesn’t use, feeling that it is of little use to him. Stewart also admitted to not gaming, but he had a good reason for his avoidance. “I do have an addictive temperament,” he explained. “I have a stack of games. I’ve never taken the covers off of them, because I feel that if I do…I’m finished.”

Appearing at OzTrek2 in Australia this weekend, Stewart spoke about the J.J. Abrams sequel, saying that he really liked the work that Leonard Nimoy had done in Star Trek XI.

Stewart went on to say that “If I was asked to do a guest role, like Leonard, in the new film, I would do that. They’re a fabulously talented group of individuals.”

When it comes to continuing Star Trek: The Next Generation as an animated series, Stewart isn’t interested, unless Seth MacFarlane (American Dad) is involved. Saying that he “probably wouldn’t” do the voice work, he told fans that the actors of The Next Generation have “moved on” and “the story has been told.” According to Stewart, “The work stands on its own.” However, he would do it if MacFarlane wrote it.

In other Stewart news, rumor has it that Stewart might be working on Mad Max 4: Fury Road. The rumor is based on Stewart telling a fan that he would be “back here soon to shoot a movie with George Miller.” Only two projects of Miller’s (Mad Max 4 and The Odyssey) are possible choices. If the rumor proves to be true, a Star Trek: Nemesis reunion might occur, as Tom Hardy (Star Trek: Nemesis: Shinzon) is reportedly playing Max, formerly played by Mel Gibson.

As reported recently at TrekToday, Hardy was in the running to replace Mel Gibson as Mad Max in Mad Max 4: Fury Word.

In addition to Hardy, Charlize Theron (Monster) will also be in the post-apocalyptic film.

Filming for Max Max 4 will begin next August, in Australia. There are no details on the plot yet, but it is known that there will be plenty of stunt work, with “super fast vehicles” that are under development. “It’s obviously over-the-top,” said Director George Miller. “But they’ll [the vehicles] have to be very high performance because the film is shot in speed, and they’ll have to be very, very safe. The reason this movie is so big is that there’s just a huge number of stunts. We’re trying to do stuff that I believe people haven’t done before.”
