While at the Saturn Awards a few days ago, Star Trek XI co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci spoke about their various projects, including Star Trek XII.
Although Star Trek XII doesn’t release until June of 2012, eager fans want to know what story progress Kurtzman and Orci have made in writing the next saga of the Star Trek story and who the villain of the piece will be.

One hundred-and-thirty-five people who have distinguished themselves in the motion picture industry were invited to join the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, including several affiliated with Star Trek XI.
The invitees were drawn from the following categories: actors, animators, art directors, at-large, casting directors, cinematographers, costume designers, directors, documentary, executives, film editors, live action short films, makeup artists and hair stylists, music, producers, production designers, public relations, set decorators, sound, visual effects and writers.

Last night was the 39th Annual Saturn Awards and while Avatar dominated, winning ten Saturn Awards, Star Trek didn’t leave totally empty-handed.
Star Trek XI was represented in the awards with a win in the Best Make-up collection, the award going to Barney Burman, Mindy Hall and Jean Harlow for their work on the movie.

Now You See Me, a film about a team of the world’s greatest illusionists who just happen to rob banks, has been picked up by Summit.
The ever-busy Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce the film, written by Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt. Yakin and Bobby Cohen will executive produce.
Now You See Me is a thriller that: “pits a crack FBI squad in a game of cat-and-mouse against a super-team of the world’s greatest illusionists, who pull off a series of daring bank heists during their performances, showering the profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law.”

An “airport-thriller” pitch from Jeremy Slater, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci has been sold to DreamWorks Studios.
The untitled thriller, to be written by Slater, will be produced by Kurtzman and Orci with Matthew Cullen and Sean Sorensen as executive producers. Cullen will direct.

Star Trek XI has been nominated for a 2010 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
The 2010 Hugo Awards nominees were announced by Aussiecon 4 recently and Star Trek XI was nominated with four other movies for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form.

Star Trek XI Co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have added even more to their already full plates with word that they are taking on a product based on a comic series published by IDW Publishing.
The pair will work on an adaptation of Locke & Key, a comic series written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez. Locke & Key is set in the village of Lovecraft and is the story of the Locke family, who move to their estate (Keyhouse), after the murder of the head of the family by a deranged high school student.

Kurtzman and Orci will bring in show ideas, create their own projects (with or without others) and recruit writers as part of the deal.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing a dramatic feature adaptation of Racing Dreams, a documentary by Marshall Curry which won Best Documentary at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
Racing Dreams is the story of three young Go-Kart racers who compete in the World Karting Association’s National Pavement Series. The racers have dreams of becoming NASCAR racers when they grow up.
Kurtzman and Orci won’t be writing the adaptation themselves, but will be overseeing Racing Dreams. Dwayne Johnson and his wife Dany Garcia, who produced the documentary, will be executive producers. A writer will be hired this week.

In a question and answer session after the showing of Star Trek XI at the Beverly Hills WGA theater on Wednesday night, Star Trek XI Co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman talked about Star Trek XII.
The two writers covered familiar ground but also spoke about the next movie, including setting, villains and pressure to make a good movie.

CBS has said OK to an updated version of the famous cop series set in Hawaii.
Back in October, it was announced that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were working on a remake of the classic Hawaii Five-O series for CBS, teaming with CSI:New York Producer Peter Lenkov.

Co-writer Damon Lindelof confirmed that he and co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will begin work on Star Trek XII once their work on Lost is finished.
“We’re going to start probably in April once the writing on Lost is done,” he said. “Trek will come out in 2012 at some point, so we’ve still got a little bit of time, but we’ve been talking about it. We just haven’t been writing.”
No word yet on when production on the sequel would begin.

Co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were nominated in the Adapted Screenplay category for their work on Star Trek XI.
