Burk On Casting Kirk And Spock

Casting Zachary Quinto as Spock in Star Trek XI was an easy task, but finding a new Captain Kirk was more of a challenge.

As reported by Newsarama, to cast Kirk, it was first necessary to figure out who Kirk was as a character. “William Shatner has been in so many things we love so the question was ‘Who is Kirk?,” said Executive Producer Bryan Burk. “Who is this character he created? When you start talking about him, he’s someone who is strong willed, a little cocky, charming, and driven.” (more…)

Kirk Baby Doctor Speaks

Even though details on her character were few, Sonita Henry enjoyed playing the doctor responsible for delivering James T. Kirk.

As reported by Starpulse, although her character’s name was unknown to her, after Star Trek XI debuts, Henry’s will be known to Star Trek fans as woman who played the role of the first person to “meet” James T. Kirk. (more…)

New Star Trek XI Trailer

A brand-new Star Trek XI trailer has been released today in the theater coupled with the movie Watchmen, and has also appeared online at the official Star Trek movie site.

As seen at Startrekmovie.com, the two-minute trailer is chock-full of action and includes previously seen footage plus plenty of new scenes, including information on James T. Kirk’s father. (more…)

Pine: Taking Kirk From Rebel to Captain

Chris Pine had the job of taking James T. Kirk from a twenty-five-year old who was more like a fifteen-year-old, to the Captain of the Enterprise.

As reported by Sci Fi Wire, Pine was given a Kirk that was young and angry. “What was presented to me was this vision of Kirk in the script as an angry young kid who is dealing with some heavy family s–t and is angry at the world,” explained Pine. (more…)

Pine: Fans To See Full Spectrum of Kirk

Chris Pine‘s portrayal of Kirk will combine the old and the new, with the character maturing over the course of Star Trek XI.

As reported by CNN, fans needn’t worry that Pine’s version of Kirk will be too different for them to accept. “I think that with this Jim Kirk you’ll get the flavor of the old,” said Pine. “I tried to bring my own take to it and do justice to what Mr. Shatner did before, but you get to see the full spectrum of Jim Kirk. There’s the young, bold, brash, cocky [quality] and I think there’s a maturity that happens within the arc of the character in the movie that’s really fun that I think people will respond to.”
