Titan Merchandise has announced the latest in their ongoing range of Star Trek figurines from the Star Trek Masterpiece Collection.

The figurines include two maxi-busts of Ricardo Montalban as Khan Noonien Singh and Leonard Nimoy as Spock.

According to the Titan Merchandise press release, the Khan Noonien Singh Maxi-Bust “captures every detail of Ricardo Montalban’s indelible performance as Khan in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, including his rugged strength, bouffant hair and every fold of his buccaneering outfit.”

The Mister Spock Maxi-Bust “celebrates Leonard Nimoy’s legendary performance as the one of the greatest Star Trek icons of all time – the unforgettable Mr. Spock. This is an incredibly detailed piece with a note-perfect, never-before-seen replication of Spock’s Starfleet uniform, tricorder and phaser.”

The polystone busts stand eight inches high and are five inches wide. Each bust will sell for $79.99, and will be available in June from Forbidden Planet and Entertainment Earth.

According to two people associated with Star Trek 2, Khan will probably not be making an appearance.

Simon Pegg and Bryan Burk recently nixed Star Trek 2 Khan rumors, or did they?

Will he, or won’t he, is the question being asked by Star Trek fans, who are wondering if Star Trek 2 will see the return of Khan Noonien Singh.

Pegg hasn’t seen the script, but neither has he heard anything about Khan either. “I haven’t heard the name Khan come up,” he said. “Not to say it won’t come up, but I have heard no mention of him whatsoever. He is a great villain. I don’t want to say too much and then have to eat my words as I often do, but we’ve seen Khan. To see him again, how much value is there in that? I don’t know.”

Burk, when asked about Khan in Star Trek 2, said “There are amazing villains all throughout the Star Trek universe as well as new villains,” he said. “As we did in the last film, there’s a lot of directions you can go with the film. In this case, we chose to do something we thought would be original and unique and different, and I think on paper, we made the right choice. Now we have to go shoot.”

One thing Star Trek 2 will see is a quick start compared to Star Trek XI, where characters needed to be established first. “Unlike the last film, where we were restarting and setting up the characters … we’re going to jump right back in, and we don’t have to set up everybody and we can go right in it,” said Burk. “We’re kind of in a mad dash at the beginning of the film. In all of our conversation, we reference a lot of our favorite films and how Empire Strikes Back was spectacular and how they were able to pick up and keep going.”

Star Trek 2 releases in 2013.

The Latino Review website claims to know which villain role Benicio Del Toro will play in Star Trek 2.

Although he hasn’t been officially announced yet as part of Star Trek 2, it is expected that Del Toro will sign up for the Abrams’ sequel soon.

Here is what Latino Review had to say: “So, I’m tracking a Latin bad guy role in an upcoming studio movie and although there is no progress today on that specific part, instead I got dibs on a big time bad guy role played by a Latin dude.

“Although heavily debated online as to whom Benicio del Toro might be playing in Star Trek 2…I’m here to tell you guys that according to my sources…Benicio Del Toro is playing none other than…KHAN NOONIEN SINGH, or better known as Khan!!!”

Until anything official is announced, treat this strictly as rumor.

UPDATE: According to Hitfix, J.J. Abrams was asked to comment on the rumor and he said, “Not true.” Hitfix also claims that Latino Reviw has a “very, very high accuracy rate with the scoops [its reporter] breaks.”

IDW Publishing’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall has updated his blog, with a picture of the Khan plushie doll to be offered this fall when Star Trek Khan: Ruling in Hell #1 debuts, as well as two pages of art from the comic book.

In Star Trek: Khan: Ruling In Hell #1, readers will be able to see just what Khan did to survive in that time between the original series Space Seed and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

The picture featured here (click on the thumbnail to enlarge) shows the arrival of Khan, his followers and Marla McGivers on Ceti Alpha V. Kirk and Khan shake hands and seemingly part on good terms.

Star Trek: Khan: Ruling In Hell #1 was written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by Fabio Mantovani and covers by Joe Corroney and Michael Stribling.

The Khan plushie doll can also be seen for the first time, wearing a black glove, a Star Trek emblem necklace and a sour expression. Ryall encourages readers to “check out the cotton-filled pecs.”

Another Khan artwork page can be seen here.

A new partnership between Mondo and CBS has resulted in a new line of posters, beginning with a familiar villain from the original series.

For the next poster in its series, Mondo will need to make more, as the entire run of the first poster, which featured Khan from Space Seed, sold out in an hour.

The 24″ by 36″ screen print with metallic ink is hand numbered and printed by D&L Screen Printing. The artist, Martin Ansin, shared his thoughts on creating the poster of Khan. “I wanted the poster to work in a rational way, almost like a chart,” he explained, “many bits of information are shown as graphic elements.”

“In there you may find several references to the Space Seed episode: modified DNA, a shadowy hand that could take over the globe, the universe or just a small planet (spoiler!), some data sets, and even Castor and Pollux (the Gemini constellation), a tip by Prof. Rob Jones; as the original writers meant for Khan to be a reflection of Kirk, like Castor and Pollux, they too are connected through their attributes as leaders.”

J.J. Abrams spoke about the sequel to Star Trek XI at the DVD/Blu-ray launch party several days ago, answering questions about his availability for the movie as well as questions regarding whether a familiar Star Trek villain would be part of the story.

One of the things Abrams would like for the sequel is to have it be more successful overseas next time. He believes that the quality of the cast and film will help in that regard. “The hope…the idea of looking at ways that hopefully the quality of the cast of the first film, the fun of the movie that that will eventually over time touch people who would not normally have gone to see the film in theaters [so] that when a sequel comes out, they’re converts because they’ve actually seen the film that was made originally,” he said.

Abrams said that it was too early to talk about themes in the sequel, and when asked about the possibility of Khan making an appearance, his answer left the door open for the genetic superman. “We’re not even at that stage yet,” he said. “The fun of where we are on the sequel is we could use some of what was done before in a new way. But we haven’t even figured out what we would use it as, it’s very early on.”

It’s looking like Star Trek XII will be released in 2012. Addressing that, Abrams said, “The more time you have, the more time you have to use to hopefully make a better movie.”

And will Abrams be back for Star Trek XII? “In theory, I would be available, it would be fun to do.” Abrams will be directing an unnamed film next year (precluding his doing Mission: Impossible IV) but would be free for Star Trek XII, if everything works out for that.
