Trek Actor Wins Emmy

Two Star Trek actors were up for Emmy awards last night at the 66th Annual Emmy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles; but only one walked away with an award.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Kate Mulgrew were nominated for Emmys.

Nimoy: No Love For Fringe

Star Trek‘s Leonard Nimoy reacted to the news that Fringe was shut out of this year’s Emmy nominations.

“No Emmy nomination for Fringe,” said Nimoy, via his Twitter feed. “Ridiculous. So much talent. So much hard work. So much imagination.”

Nimoy compared Hollywood’s lack of respect for Fringe to the lack of respect for Star Trek over the years. “Shouldn’t be so surprised about Fringe,” he said. “Emmy has given short shrift to Star Trek for forty-six years. Amazing.”

Star Trek fans watching the Emmys last night were treated to a skit in which Leonard Nimoy appeared alongside Jane Lynch.

Nimoy took on the role at the last moment after Alec Baldwin withdrew after a joke of his mocking the Rupert Murdoch phone scandal was cut from the skit. “They edited out a line and he asked them to not air the segment,” a friend of Baldwin’s explained. “He didn’t want to do something that had been edited afterwards because if it’s comedy and you take out a key line, it just doesn’t work.”
