At first, Star Trek XI‘s John Cho was not sure whether it would be wise to take on another Harold & Kumar movie.

When Cho got the call about making another Harold & Kumar movie, he wasn’t sure that another movie could capture the magic again.

“My hesitation was that the second one took place a minute after the first one, so I see the first two as really linked, and much more similar,” Cho said. “The first one was a lot of race satire, and the second was a political satire, and I didn’t know whether we could make another one in that vein. I also didn’t know if we could do another movie where they were the same age as the first two.”

But when he got further details, Cho was reassured. “So when I heard that they were older, and that it was going to be a Christmas movie, that really turned me around,” he said. “I thought that could work, doing a traditional Christmas movie and putting a Harold & Kumar spin on it, and have them be older and have them be separated. When I heard that pitch, I was really optimistic.”

But at first, during rehearsals, Cho wasn’t sure that it was working out after all. “The first week of rehearsal that we were in, it felt a little bumpy to me,” he said. “I can’t really put my finger on exactly what it was, but I wasn’t super confident after that first week of rehearsal. I was a little worried.”

Cho’s worries concerned the interaction between Harold and Kumar. “…I actually think I was worried up until the first week of shooting, because I was doing stuff without Kumar, and I wasn’t sure whether Harold and Kumar had their groove back yet,” he said.

But once shooting began, his worries faded away. “But then Kal and I shot our stuff,” said Cho, “and it felt like, OK, yes, I now know that we’re making a Harold & Kumar movie.

“…so it didn’t feel right until we were doing our thing together again.”

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas will release on November 4.

John Cho is now in waiting mode for Star Trek 2, as it is the next project for the actor who reprised the role of Sulu in Star Trek XI.

Like everyone else, Cho is in the dark about when Star Trek 2 filming will actually begin. “We were supposed to shoot Star Trek 2, or XII, this winter,” he said, “but I’m not really sure when it’s going. So I’m kind of on standby.”

Cho is curious to see after completing Star Trek 2 if his version of Sulu is heading in the same direction as George Takei‘s Sulu. “I’ll be interested to know,” he said. “For me, the direction I got on the first one was ‘Connect those dots, but don’t have it be spot on.’ So I’ll be interested to know where we’re going, acting-wise, for the second one. There are a lot of decisions to make.”

While waiting for Star Trek 2, Cho fans can look forward to A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, due out November 4; American Reunion, due out April of 2012; and the Total Recall remake, due out in August of 2012.

John Cho was satisfied with his work in Star Trek XI, and the actor who played Sulu has an opinion on what he’d like to see for the character in the next Star Trek movie.

There was plenty for Cho to do in Star Trek XI, which was gratifying, as he didn’t expect a big role in the movie. “I was happy,” he said. “When I took the role, I hadn’t read the script, even. I just knew that I wanted to be a part of it. I wasn’t sure how it’d juggle out. There were just a lot of characters to get to, it was a big story to tell, and I wasn’t expecting a huge arc.”

What Cho got was a fun fight scene. “But that scene, the fight, was spectacular,” he said. “It was something I hadn’t done before. It was new territory for me. So I was very happy with what I had, to answer your question.”

Cho was impressed when he first saw Star Trek XI. “But I can only tell you what my reaction was,” he said. “I was just screaming the first time we screened the movie. It was on the Paramount lot. The main cast was there and everyone was going nuts, as I was. I kind of forgot that I was in the movie. A lot of actors watch movies, watch themselves, in a very critical way and they start nitpicking. The movie was so exciting that I actually forgot to beat myself up. And I thought the guy playing Sulu was OK.”

What does Cho want for Sulu in the next movie? “Sulu’s battle was external in the first one,” said Cho, “and I think it’d be interesting to see him have an internal battle of some sort. That would be fun for me, for him to struggle with a decision.”

John Cho can be seen in Funny or Die‘s G.A.Y.S. (Guys Against You Serving), a two-and-a-half minute long video.

In G.A.Y.S. (Guys Against You Serving), the topic is “don’t ask, don’t tell.” Cho appears with Dave Holmes, Sarah Silverman, Alex Fernie and Thomas Lennon to point out the absurdity of some of the reasons for some of the public’s support for the current “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

The characters in the Funny or Die video give their reasons why they feel that gays should not serve in the military. “When the shit hits the fan,” said Cho, “and the Taliban decides to nuke us, I don’t want to be down there in a foxhole and see that everyone is knocking down appletini’s and watching Sex and the City II. It wasn’t even as good as the first one!”

Other characters in the video give their reasons, which include not wanting tutus in the cockpit. At the end of the video, the characters say, “While none of us have actually served our country, we know exactly who we don’t want doing it for us. We are ‘Guys Against You Serving ‘ and we are proud.”

Statistics are then presented which show how many people have been discharged from the military because of their sexual orientation. Viewers are urged to make their opinions known to their lawmakers in hopes of repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

Zachary Quinto (Sylar) will have more free time on his hands now that Heroes has been canceled after four seasons.

Heroes may have featured ordinary people with superhuman abilities, but even Sylar couldn’t overcome anemic ratings. NBC canceled the once-popular show after ratings, which once averaged a 6.6 rating/10 share, fell almost thirty percent to a 4.7/7 after the third season.

At first, the network considered a shortened final season to wrap up Heroes, but decided against it due to the high costs of producing the show and the declining ratings (2.7/4) for what turned out to be the show’s final season.

Quinto spoke about the cancellation in his blog, thanking the fans for their support. “Yesterday NBC announced that Heroes is officially cancelled,” he said. “As much as we have been aware of this possibility for a few weeks – it remains surreal to consider that the decision has been made. The action has been taken. And this chapter (or volume) is really over for all of us who worked on the show – and for all of you who watched it.

“I want to extend myself in a huge swell of gratitude to all of the fans, for investing in the stories we told, for engaging in the characters we created and for standing by us through all the ups and downs of what was at times a rocky road. Your commitment enriched the experience for all of us – and I know that we will always be grateful for your enthusiasm.”

Quinto wasn’t the only Star Trek XI actor to have a show cancelled. John Cho‘s FlashForward also got the ax after its first season.

According to Variety, while the show started out strong, it was soon plagued by creative problems and went through three rounds of showrunners. A lengthy hiatus didn’t help matters, as viewers failed to return when the show did.

Cho’s responded to news of the cancellation on Twitter, saying “Thanks for all the job offers everyone. Am considering.”

FlashForward will end on May 27.

John Cho, currently appearing on ABC’s FlashForward as FBI agent Demetri Noh, is looking forward to working on the next Star Trek movie.

While promoting FlashForward, which has just returned from hiatus, Cho spoke about filming in Los Angeles for FlashForward as well as working on Star Trek. “What’s been great about filming in L.A. is just getting to relearn my city because we’re shooting on location so much,” he said. “For instance, we shot in Pacoima and, oddly enough, it’s a place I’d never been to. That was cool. We’ve been shooting in Japantown a little bit, and I always like going to Little Tokyo and eating in Ramen spots.”

Cho may be have an action-filled life as Noh and Sulu, but in real life, he considers his life normal and even a bit dull. “I think I lead a spectacularly dull life, I’m sad to say,” he said. “It’s mostly work and family and really a few friends. But, the flipside is what is extraordinary about my life, and it’s really just the privilege of the job that I have. Otherwise, I feel like it’s very banal.”

Some of his friends were made during the filming of Star Trek XI and Cho can’t wait to start on the sequel. “I am greatly looking forward to returning to Star Trek,” he said. “It was a dream job. It was a blast being on the Enterprise. The set was so cool. Working with J.J. [Abrams] was fantastic. What I look forward to most about the experience is just getting together with my friends again and working on something. We hang out, but there’s nothing quite like working together with your friends on something. It’s a very special feeling. And, that is a special project and a special franchise, so I just look forward to the camaraderie of getting together on the Bridge and hanging out with my friends and working on something we like.”

Fans looking forward to the third installment of the Harold and Kumar series, with John Cho as Harold Lee, will be pleased to hear that the film may release this holiday season.

Plan calls for filming on A Very Harold & Kumar to begin in June. A director is still needed, and it is not known if Kal Penn (Kumar Patel) will be returning. Penn is currently in Washington, D.C., working for the Obama administration.

The story of Harold and Kumar will begin a few years after the second film and Harold and Kumar are not living together anymore. “”I think we catch up a little later in Harold and Kumar’s lives,” said Cho. “It takes place over the holiday season and I think this could be a legit holiday movie, which is a shocker. I think their intent is to sort of honor the traditions of the holiday movie style, that genre. I don’t know if they’ll stick to that. I don’t know how many rewrite are gonna happen, but from what I hear, they’re happy with the idea.”

Cho also spoke another of his movie roles, the Star Trek sequel, updating the status. “I still think they’re hammering out script ideas,” he said, admitting that he didn’t know who the villain would be. When asked if he has tried to pitch anything for Sulu in the sequel, he said, “No, I’m not ballsy enough.” But Cho was confident, given his role in the first movie, that his part would be satisfying.
