Two Trek Actors To Host Sci-Tech Awards

Chris Pine and  Zoë Saldana will be hosting the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical Awards next month.

First presented in 1931, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Scientific and Technical Awards “honor achievements that improve the production, distribution and exhibition of movies.”


Cumberbatch TvChoice Award Winner

Benedict Cumberbatch, the mystery villain of Star Trek Into Darkness, won two awards at the 16th TVChoice awards last night.

Both of Cumberbatch’s awards came as a result of his work on the BBC’s Sherlock.

Cumberbatch won one award for Best Actor, and another for Sherlock, which won for Best Drama Series.

Star Trek Online Wins Awards

Star Trek Online has won five “Best of 2010″ award from the Massively MMO blog, beating out such games as Lego Universe and Final Fantasy XIV.

The Star Trek Online MMORPG was released in January 2010 and has been continuously updated with new seasons and episodes.


Burton To Host Awards Ceremony

LeVar Burton, best known to Trek fans as Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Geordi La Forge, will be hosting this year’s IndieCade Red Carpet Awards Ceremony and Reception.

IndieCade, “dedicated to bringing together the freshest, most innovative and creative minds and works in independent game design,” was founded in 2005 and holds an annual international festival and series of exhibitions, conferences and other “happenings for the future of independent games.”


It’s Been An Up Year For Giacchino

Michael Giacchino had a productive 2009 and is reaping the rewards of having composed music for Star Trek XI, UP and Lost, while looking ahead to future projects.

Giacchino has already won two Grammys, as well as a Golden Globe for his work in Up. He has been nominated for an Oscar as well for Music Original Score for his work in the animated Pixar film, going up against another composer known for his work on Star Trek, James Horner.


‘Star Trek XI’ Nominated For Six Saturn Awards

While no match for the Avatar juggernaut, J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek still received six nominations for the Saturn Awards today.

According to the full list of nominations posted on the SF Site, Star Trek was nominated as Best Science Fiction Film, while both director J.J. Abrams and writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were nominated in their respective categories. No Love For Star Trek XI From ACE And ADG

Shatner To Host 37th Annie Awards

William Shatner will be the host of the 37th Annie Awards, given each year by the ASIFA-Hollywood branch of the International Animated Film Association for the best work in animation. Plus: Shatner and “So Act”.
