True Trek History To Be Penned

A new book chronicling the history of Star Trek, The 50 Year Mission: The Complete Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of Star Trek, will debut in 2016.

Published by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press, The 50 Year Mission will be written by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman.


Takei Supports Social Security Bill

Star Trek‘s George Takei appeared in Washington, D.C. yesterday in support of The Social Security Equality Act bill (H.R. 4609), introduced by California Representative Linda Sánchez.

H.R. 4609 would eliminate the Social Security Administration policy which denies certain benefits to same-sex couples.


Takei: The Census: Be Counted

George Takei and his husband Brad Altman urge same-sex couples to complete the 2010 census and show America how many of them are in a marriage or consider themselves married even if not legally wed.

Takei, complete in a Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan uniform, urged fellow gay couples to participate in the census. “[You may ask] why I’m still wearing this Starfleet uniform,” he said. “It’s to get you to actually listen to this important message, that affects how our community and marriages such as ours are viewed by this nation. Be counted!”

Takei To Appear On Newlywed Game

George Takei and his husband Brad Altman will be the first couple to appear on a celebrity edition of The Newlywed Game.

The Newlywed Game has been on and off of television since its debut in 1967, but has never featured a gay couple. According to Kelly Goode, programming chief of GSN, the former Game Show Network, on which the show now appears, this was due to the game’s rules which required that a couple needed to be in a legally-recognized marriage.


An Evening With George Takei

Philadelphia-area fans were able to meet George Takei (Sulu) at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute last Thursday, where he spoke about Star Trek and gay rights.

Fans were able to get questions answered, take pictures and have autographs signed by Takei, who is known for being fan-friendly. “I love having any opportunity to meet with fans,” said Takei. “Whatever community turns out at these events, I am always touched by the outpouring of heartfelt affection and honor. I have had a long career and it is all thanks to you.”
