Another Trek Actor To Present Oscars

Another name has been announced as an awards presenter at the 87th Academy Awards and it is a familiar one to Trek fans.

The actor will join Benedict Cumberbatch and Zoë Saldana at the ceremony, which takes place February 22.

Star Trek XI Makeup Crew Acknowledge Co-Workers

The three-person makeup crew for Star Trek XI were nominated for an Oscar for their work, but are quick to point out that it took more than just the three of them to create the species, old and new, which appeared in Star Trek XI.

During a Saturday afternoon symposium featuring the Oscar-nominated hair and makeup artists for 2010, one of the three Star Trek XI makeup artists, Mindy Hall, makeup department head, spoke for the group. “We’re thrilled there were forty-plus makeup artists, twelve of which are out here today, who stood beside us. They weren’t behind us. They were beside us, taking the designs and bringing them to life.”


Star Trek Oscar Nominations Past and Present

Tomorrow, the 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be held and Star Trek fans wait to see if one of the four nominations for the J.J. Abrams film will strike Oscar gold.

While most Oscar fans will be waiting to see whether Avatar or The Hurt Locker will walk away with Best Picture honors, Trek fans are hoping that at the end of the night Star Trek will have laid claim to its first Oscar.

To the surprise of many, who if not expecting a Star Trek XI Best Picture win expected the movie to be on the list of potential Best Pictures, Star Trek XI has to be content with its other four nominations for Oscars in other categories.


Star Trek XI In Running For Makeup Oscar

The seven finalists for the makeup Oscar have been announced and Star Trek XI is one of the seven films nominated.

Star Trek XI is one step closer to an Oscar for makeup, on a list along with six other sci-fi, fantasy, drama, history and apocalypse films.

The seven nominees are:

  • Star Trek XI
  • District 9
  • Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
  • The Road
  • The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
  • The Young Victoria
  • Il Divo

The seven nominees will be narrowed down to just three on February 2. The Academy Awards will air on March 7.

Star Trek XI Makes Academy Visual Effects List

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the fifteen semi-finalists for the Oscar’s Best Visual Effects category.

Star Trek XI has made the first cut, joining other blockbusters from 2009 such as Avatar, 2012 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for consideration.
