Roy On Playing Keenser

Deep Roy figured out that he would return as Keenser in Star Trek into Darkness while he was still working on Star Trek.

During the filming of Star Trek, a newly-created scene that required Roy to return for another day’s shooting gave him hope that a return was in the cards.

The movie earned $5,660,000 this weekend, for a grand total of $210,490,700.

Weller: Landing His Trek Role

For Peter Weller, Star Trek into Darkness‘ Admiral Marcus, landing the role came courtesy of a Fringe episode containing an incident eerily reminiscent of a real life event in Weller’s life, and courtesy of a parking lot encounter with J.J. Abrams.

The episode of Fringe in which Weller had appeared (White Tulip) was a role that he had originally rejected, until his wife convinced him to read the script.


Third Place Star Trek

The figures are out and Star Trek into Darkness finished third at the theaters this weekend.

The movie earned $47,000,000 for the holiday weekend; just behind The Hangover Part II, which earned $51,214,000. The number one earner this weekend was Fast & Furious 6, which earned $120,000,000.

So far, Star Trek into Darkness has earned $155,827,300 in domestic markets.

Abrams appeared on Conan last night, where Conan addressed the Marcus underwear scene controversy.


Foster On Star Trek Into Darkness Novelization

Foster is no stranger to Star Trek novels, having written the Animated Series Star Trek Log novelizations as well as the story for what became the first Star Trek movie, but after thirty years, he had thought that his Trek days were behind him.


Eve on Conan

Last night, Alice Eve was on Conan and two short clips featuring the actress on the show have been released.

In the clips, Eve reveals that she was attracted to performing from a young age, had a teacher whose negative comments made her determined to succeed in school, and was initially a bit confused during a call from J.J. Abrams to her regarding Star Trek into Darkness.

Guyett – Ramping It Up For Darkness

ILM Visual Effects Supervisor Roger Guyett explained how ILM wanted to improve the special effects for Star Trek into Darkness.

“We wanted to find that number eleven on the dial,” he said. “It gave us a great opportunity to revisit these pieces—keeping them very familiar but to reinvent them every so slightly and give them a new level of energy.”
