Nimoy: Trek And Tweets

Not many octogenarians are on Facebook and Twitter, but Leonard Nimoy is, courtesy of his granddaughter Dani.

Like her grandfather, Dani is artistic and Nimoy’s Secret Selves photographs gave her an idea. “She was quite convinced that they’d look good on tee-shirts,” said Nimoy.


Shatner To Host British Comedy Quiz Show

Have I Got News For You is a comedy quiz show that “grills celebrity contestants on the week’s top stories and news.”


Nimoy To Appear on Fringe

Leonard Nimoy will be reprising his role of William Bell on Fringe this week in the Season Four finale.

Nimoy will be appearing on Brave New World, Part II.


Takei Supports Social Security Bill

Star Trek‘s George Takei appeared in Washington, D.C. yesterday in support of The Social Security Equality Act bill (H.R. 4609), introduced by California Representative Linda Sánchez.

H.R. 4609 would eliminate the Social Security Administration policy which denies certain benefits to same-sex couples.


Space Shuttle Enterprise Lands At JFK

The Space Shuttle Enterprise made its last flight today, departing this morning piggybacked atop a 747 from Washington, D.C., and arriving at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

On hand to greet the arrival of the Enterprise was Star Trek‘s Leonard Nimoy, in town for the occasion.


Trek Cookies For Takei

In honor of his seventy-fifth birthday, a Toronto bakery made a baker’s dozen cookies for George Takei.

Takei was in Toronto to attend the annual Sakura Ball, where he received the Sakura Award.


Shatner Sends Greetings To Space

Star Trek’s William Shatner sent a message to the members of the Expedition 30 crew currently in residence on the International Space Station.

Shatner decided to send the crew the message after he found out that some of the space-related songs from his Seeking Major Tom album were being played aboard the ISS.


Takei At Seventy-Five

Star Trek‘s George Takei celebrates his seventy-fifth birthday today, and the actor reflected upon his life while looking ahead to the future.

The actor is spending his birthday trying to do something worthwhile. “I’m literally up in the air flying from Los Angeles to Toronto to speak at a fundraiser for the Japanese-Canadian Cultural Centre,”  said Takei. “So I am celebrating my seventy-fifth birthday in the way that I’ve spent most of my life: raising funds for good causes.”


Shatner Dines With Millionth Twitter Follower

Last night, one lucky fan of William Shatner got to have dinner with William and Elizabeth Shatner.

The contest began back in March in honor of Shatner’s eighty-first birthday, when it was announced that the millionth follower of Shatner would win tickets to Shatner’s “Shatner’s World” show plus dinner with Shatner and wife afterwards.


Five Trek Captains To Appear Together

For Star Trek fans in the UK, October will prove to be an exciting month as all five Star Trek television captains; William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula, will be appearing on the stage at Destination Star Trek London.

Destination Star Trek London organizers claim that their event will be the “first official Star Trek live event in the UK for ten years.”


Koenig Walk of Fame Star Celebration

Walter Koenig‘s induction onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame will take place this September and details on the celebration plus a video congratulating the actor have been released.

On September 8, the last of Star Trek’s seven regular cast members will get his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the day will begin with a trek down that Walk of Fame with Koenig to locate every star involved with Star Trek.


Nichols And President Obama

Last week, Nichelle Nichols was able to meet President Barack Obama, and she has shared a picture taken with the President with her Star Trek fans.

“I was honored to get a chance to meet with Pres[ident] Barack Obama today in the White House,” she said via Twitter. “He was as charming and handsome as I had expected.”

In The Transporter Malfunction, Sheldon accidentally breaks his Mr. Spock Trek collectible and is haunted by Mr. Spock, voiced by Nimoy.


Takei: Responses To Coming Out

When George Takei came out in 2005, he received many emails; most were positive but some were not.

Although out to family, friends and select others, Takei came out publicly in 2005 in response to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s veto of a gay marriage bill.
