Star Trek‘s William Shatner has been tapped to host the 2012 Juno Awards.

The Juno Awards are chosen by the members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and presented to Canadian musical artists and/or bands for musical or technical achievement.

This year’s ceremony will be held on April 1 at Ottawa’s Scotiabank place, and will be aired on CTV. Performers will include Feist, Deadmau5 and City & Colour.

Star Trek‘s George Takei will be performing with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in Ode to Joy later this month.

Ode to Joy will be performed on February 25 and 26 at the Robinson Center Music Hall in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Takei will act as narrator for Schoenberg‘s “A Survivor from Warsaw” piece. The narration for this piece “depicts the story of a concentration camp survivor from the Warsaw ghetto during World War II.”

Takei and his family were sent to an internment camp in Rohwer, Arkansas during World War II. The actor is chairman emeritus and a trustee of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. Takei was also appointed by former President Clinton to the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission.

Leonard Nimoy has been offered what most Star Trek fans would love to be given, an invitation to visit the Star Trek 2 set.

“I’ve been invited to visit the set of the new Star Trek film,” said Nimoy via his Twitter feed. “Hope to do that next week.”

The show, two hours in length, will “take audiences on a voyager through Shatner’s life and career,” from his earliest days as a stage actor to “internationally known icon and raconteur.”

“I’m looking forward to taking this show on the road and playing for audiences across the country,” said Shatner. “It’s taken me eighty years to get this show right!”

The show opens at Broadway’s Music Box Theater on February 4 and runs through March 4. It will then appear in the following cities:

After fourteen years as the Priceline Negotiator, William Shatner‘s character is going to perish in a heroic fashion.

A new thirty-second commercial will show the Negotiator saving vacationers from a bus that is about to go over the railing of a bridge.

“Save yourselves – some money,” he implores, giving his cellphone to one of the passengers to make that call to Priceline. The Negotiator and the bus then fall into a dry creek bed, and an explosion marks the end of the Negotiator.

“I’m in grief mode,” said Shatner. “”It’s not the first time I’ve had an iconic character die off.”

It’s also not the first time his character fell off of a bridge to his death.

The death of the Negotiator is part of the strategy to get the attention of TV viewers watching the Priceline ads. “The challenge is harder to get people’s attention than it used to be,” said Christopher Soder, Priceline CEO. “So we decided to do something really over the top to get the message across.

Priceline is changing their business model, moving from a “name-your-price” model to a fixed-price one. “Had [Shatner] been less effective [at promoting the 'name-your-price' model], he could have been allowed to fade away,” said Peter Sealey of Claremont Graduate University’s School of Management. “I don’t know if I would have gone as far as the bus exploding.”

“It was a great run,” said Shatner. But “if the management says ‘this is the end,’ this is the end.”

Shatner is still under contract with Priceline.

Being cast as Christopher was a snap for Perry. “I remember that it was one of the easiest jobs I ever got,” he explained. “To this day, I don’t understand why it was so easy.”

“I went there and his office was on the second floor of some building there,” said Perry. “I walked into the office and there was a secretary, and no one else. She said, ‘Just a moment.’ She announced me and I went in. Michael [O'Herlihy] was behind a desk and there was no one else in the office. We talked for about five or ten minutes and he said, ‘Well, you’re right for this. Let’s go do it.’ That was it. I guess he pictured the character a certain way and I fit that image. I didn’t have to read. I didn’t have to do anything. We just talked. So I always remember that experience, and I wish I had more of them!”

One of Perry’s most vivid memories of filming the episode had to do with what happened before the cameras began rolling for the day. “The unusual thing, but I have to say this because I remember it,” said Perry. “The very first day going into makeup I was in the makeup room and [William] Shatner was a couple of chairs down. I remember looking over and I was very shocked because they were putting his toupee on. I said, ‘Wait a minute. He’s a young man.’ At that time he was very young and I thought, ‘Well, that’s interesting.’ I didn’t know at that time whether they were doing it because of the character. Then I heard later on that he’d been wearing a toupee for a long, long time.”

Perry found the story of Tomorrow is Yesterday to be intriguing. “I liked the whole idea of the episode,” he said. “Going back in time, it’s very confusing and mysterious, but it’s also fascinating. I liked the idea that [Christopher] found out he was going to have a son, and we had a lot of fun with that.”

What would Perry do differently if he could redo his work on the episode? “I watched it again a few months ago, before I went to Las Vegas for the big convention there,” said Perry, “and I remember watching the scene when he’s first beamed up and saying to my wife, Joyce [Bulifant], who was watching it with me, ‘I think maybe I could have done more at that particular moment with that particular scene.’ I said that because one minute he’s in a fighter plane and the next moment he’s in this strange situation where he’s in this room with these different people. It’s such a momentous moment for him that I think I should have tried some different things.”

Perry’s post-Star Trek work included shows such as Love, American Style, The Facts of Life, Barnaby Jones, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Falcon Crest, The F.B.I., and Ironside.

In 1968, while Nimoy was playing Spock on Star Trek, he and wife Sandra Zober purchased a house in the Westwood-area of Los Angeles.

After the Nimoys divorced in 1987, Sandra remained in the house until her death last April. The 3,664 square foot house, built in 1938, was listed for sale for $1.72 million and sold for $1.95 million.

January begins with Albuquerque Comic Con, which will run from January 13-15 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Albuquerque. In attendance will be Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Brent Spiner.

Next up is Oz Trek 7, to be held January 28-29 at the Rydges Melbourne, in Melbourne, Australia. In attendance at Oz Trek 7 will be Walter Koenig and Chase Masterson.

Wrapping up January will be Wizard World New Orleans Comic Con, also held on January 28-29. Wizard World New Orleans Comic Con will be held at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and will feature William Shatner.

In February, MegaCon will be held from February 17-19 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. In attendance will be Kate Mulgrew, Tim Russ, Robert Picardo, Brent Spiner and Arne Starr.

From February 24-26, GalaxyFest 2012 will be held at the Antler’s Hilton in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In attendance will be Robert Picardo and Denise Crosby.

In Celebrity Apprentice, the celebrity contestants vie to raise money and awareness for their charity of choice, with the last person standing “hired” as the “Celebrity Apprentice” who will then have the honor of delivering a check for $250,000 to his or her favorite charity.

Takei will join talk show host Arsenio Hall; singers Clay Aiken, Dee Snider, Aubrey O’Day, Debbie Gibson and Tia Carrere; actors Lou Ferrigno, Paul Teutul Sr., and Adam Carolla; race car driver Michael Andretti; models Cheryl Tiegs and Patricia Velasquez; former Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza; Lisa Lampanelli; magician Penn Jillette; reality show star Teresa Guidice; and author/daughter of a mobster Victoria Gotti on the Donald Trump-hosted show.

The new season of Celebrity Apprentice premieres on NBC on February 12.

The one-man show is called Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It and it will run for several weeks at the Music Box Theater in February.

Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It is based on years of Q&As done by Shatner for his various books including Star Trek Memories, Up Till Now: The Autobiography, Get a Life! and Shatner Rules: Your Guide to Understanding the Shatnerverse and the World at Large.

Room for Shatner’s performance opened up courtesy of an early closing of Private Lives, starring another Star Trek veteran, Kim Cattrall (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country). Private Lives was a casualty of slow ticket sales.

After the Broadway run, Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It will begin a fifteen-week national tour.
