McDowell: Kirk Deserved Better

Malcolm McDowell, who played the obsessed Dr. Tolian Soran, did not like how Captain Kirk died in Star Trek: Generations.

According to McDowell, the death scene was filmed several times. “We shot it twice,” said McDowell. “It was feeble, I thought, because I thought [Kirk] deserved better.”

Alley Sued

The suit was filed by Marian Abramyan, who used Alley’s Organic Liaison line of weight loss products.

Star Trek In Paramount 100 Years Poster

McGinnis: Star Trek III’s Mr. Adventure

In Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Trek fans were amused by a character known as “Mr. Adventure,” played by Scott McGinnis, whose desire to escape “the hind end of space” led to his being locked into a closet by Commander Uhura after his wish for a little excitement came true.

Mr. Adventure was so-named after the Starfleet lieutenant told Uhura that “…maybe [peace and quiet is] OK for someone like you, whose career is winding down. But me, I need some excitement, some adventure… maybe even just a surprise or two.”

Luckinbill: Nimoy Wanted Another Role In Star Trek V

If things had gone his way, Leonard Nimoy would have had two roles in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

Luckinbill played the older Vulcan half-brother of Spock who was on the hunt for Sha Ka Ree and God.

Cromwell Joins American Horror Story

James Cromwell, best-known to Star Trek fans as Zafram Cochrane from Star Trek: First Contact will be joining another Star Trek actor in American Horror Story.

Cromwell joins Zachary Quinto, who has signed on for a new role in America Horror Story. Quinto had previously played Chad Warwick on the first season of the show.

Murdock Passes

Veteran character actor George Murdock passed away last week at the age of eighty-one.

The actor, best-known for his roles on Barney Miller and Battlestar Galactica, was familiar to Star Trek fans for his appearances in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Joel Goldsmith Passes

Joel Goldsmith, son of Star Trek composer Jerry Goldsmith, passed away yesterday at the age of fifty-four.

Star Trek First Contact Score Released

GNP Crescendo Records has announced the release of a limited-edition collector’s CD of Star Trek: First Contact.

The CD, featuring the complete score by Jerry Goldsmith (with additional music by Joel Goldsmith), has been newly remastered by recording engineer Bruce Botnick.

Plummer Wins Oscar

Christopher Plummer, best known to Star Trek fans as General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, won an Oscar last night at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.

The Oscar, for Best Supporting Actor, was for Plummer’s role in Beginners, where he played an elderly widower who comes out of the closet after the death of his wife.

January-February 2012 Conventions

There will be five conventions, shows or appearances in January and February that feature actors of interest to Star Trek fans. This listing of conventions and shows features actors from four of the televised series and several of the Star Trek movies.

January begins with Albuquerque Comic Con, which will run from January 13-15 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Albuquerque. In attendance will be Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Brent Spiner.

Next up is Oz Trek 7, to be held January 28-29 at the Rydges Melbourne, in Melbourne, Australia. In attendance at Oz Trek 7 will be Walter Koenig and Chase Masterson.
