Is this the Enterprise theme that could have been?

It’s no secret that the Enterprise theme tune was not hugely popular, but for quite some time it was rumoured that the theme would in fact be Wherever You Will Go by The Calling. The song was used in promotional adverts on UPN at the time, leading to conjecture that it would also be the show’s theme.

One enterprising (no pun intended) YouTuber mashed up the credits with Wherever You Will Go; the music blends well with the timing of the video, most notably a change in tempo when the rockets lift off. Could it have been an early contender for the theme?

London Shoppers Beamed Up

To promote the release of Star Trek into Darkness on DVD, Blu-ray and video-on-demand, Blinkbox and top illusionist Scott Penrose put on a transporting exhibition at London’s Westfield shopping centre.

The video, seen below, amazed a gathered crowd who saw people beamed away from one spot and sent to other parts of the mall.


Motion Pictures Trek Comic

The current run of Motion Pictures comics, created by Josh Edelglass, features Star Trek into Darkness.

Motion Pictures comic is the story of a boy and his robot, who “mysteriously gain the power to jump in and out of movies.”


September-October 2013 Trek Conventions And Appearances

There will be eighteen conventions, shows or appearances in September and October that will feature actor of interest to Star Trek fans. This listing of conventions and shows features actors from all of the televised series and several of the Star Trek movies.

September begins with the Salt Lake Comic Con, to be held September 5-7 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. In attendance at the Salt Lake Comic Con will be William Shatner and Dwight Schultz.


Trek Parody To Play In Manhattan

Where No Man Has Gone Before: The Unauthorized Musical Parody will play for one night only at the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan.

The parody musical, which debuted in Washington, D.C. this summer, features cast members from that run.


Vegas Fans Beat Guinness World Record

Fans attending Creation Entertainment’s Official Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas last weekend broke the Guinness Book of World Records for most people in one place in Star Trek costumes.

The record was snatched away from Star Trek London, which set the record last year with 1,063 fans dressed up in Trek costumes.


Star Trek: Renegades Needs Fan Help

Star Trek: Renegades is hoping to create a “full new Star Trek pilot” in hopes of getting an online or cable series from CBS.

To produce their pilot, Star Trek: Renegades has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise revenue for the project.


Restored Shuttlecraft Galileo To Debut

The restoration project, led by Adam Schneider, took a year to complete.


Voyage Trekkers Returns

Voyage Trekkers, a comedy webseries features the “worst starship crew in the Galactic Union,” has returned for a second season with Revenge of the Lizard Men, Part 1.

The Voyage Trekkers webseries, created by Nathan Blackwell and Craig Michael Curtis, began in December 2010.

Web Cooking Show Features Trek Cuisine

The show, hosted by Ed Robinson and Jodie Younse, will have weekly episodes, with new ones appearing every Wednesday.


Sorry Shatner; No Vulcan!

Back in February, TrekToday reported that William Shatner‘s campaign to have one of two Pluto moons given the name Vulcan had resulted in a first place finish in the voting, but today comes the news that the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has thumbed its nose at the voters.

Vulcan had finished first in the voting, with 174,062 votes, followed by Cerberus which was second with 99,432 votes.

Launched yesterday, the Star Trek Design Contest will offer prizes up to $2,500.
