Last year, a website was unveiled in a Star Trek into Darkness clip during a scene when John Harrison was in the brig. The website was AreYouThe1701.com.
At the site, readers were urged to sign up for future updates, and were told “We will tell you when the search begins.”

The Beam Me Up Star Trek Augmented Reality App is up for a Webby Award and fans can help it win.
Last fall, fans at London’s Destination Star Trek convention were able to use a Star Trek Augmented Reality app to “beam up” from a mock-up of the Enterprise’s transporter room, and to see the results on their smartphones.

Tickets for the IMAX showing of Star Trek into Darkness went on sale yesterday in the UK, and fan demand was so high that it crashed the IMAX website.
The same high demand also caused difficulties for the ODEON online ticket sales site.

A group of fans in Dallas failed to break the Guinness World Record for people dressed as Star Trek characters.
The fans were attending a Texas Lottery event where the draws were the appearance of William Shatner as host of the event, and the attempt to set the world record.

There will be twenty-eight conventions, shows or appearances in April and May that feature actors of interest to Star Trek fans. This listing of conventions and shows features actors from all of the televised series and several of the Star Trek movies.
April begins with the Steel City Con, which will be held from Apr. 5-7 at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, USA. In attendance at the Steel City Con will be Dwight Schultz.

On Saturday night, the Star Trek logo appeared over London skies.
Paramount took part in the World Wildlife Foundation’s (WWF) International Earth Hour event in London by using quadrocopters to form the Federation logo in the sky.

The final tally for the vote to name two moons of Pluto is in, and Vulcan has outpaced all its competitors.
Vulcan, and the second-place finisher, Cerberus, were the two top vote getters, with only Vulcan receiving over one hundred thousand votes.

For German fans of Klingon opera, tomorrow is a good day to hie….over to the Haus der Kulturen der Welt to see “U,” a complete Klingon Opera.
In “U,” the unforgettable hero Kahless is “betrayed by his brother [and] forced to go down into the underworld and to invent the close range conflict weapon Bat’leth to topple the tyrant Molo.”

The Esurance Star Trek into Darkness Facebook page features several items; the sweepstakes entry form, an inside look into the movie, a “Vulcanizer,” and some fun downloads.

A new Texas scratch off lottery game features Star Trek.
To celebrate the launch of the new scratch off Star Trek game, the Texas Lottery Headquarters will hold an event featuring prizes and a chance to break a Guinness Book of World record for Trek fans in costume. William Shatner will be in attendance.
