Neither bankruptcy nor a fungal attack could stop Star Trek fan Tony Alleyne from making his dream of having a Star Trek Voyager-themed flat come true, but a divorce will force him to turn that apartment back into a conventional one.

Alleyne took several years and spent £30,000 to turn his apartment into a Star Trek Voyager-themed residence, which featured “a computer console, flashing lights and ‘transporters.’”

Last year, problems arose with mold and fungus invading the flat and it turned out that Alleyne’s downstairs neighbor was growing marijuana in his apartment, using hydroponic growing equipment. “The police came and knocked on the door of the place below and took away twenty-five cannabis plants and the equipment,” said Alleyne. “I couldn’t believe there was something like that going on right below me. When the police took the hydroponics away all that stuff looked as hi-tech as my place.”

Alleyne was able to restore the apartment to its former glory, but now a new menace threatens his unique residence, his forthcoming divorce. Alleyne and wife Georgina separated in 1994 and are now divorcing. Georgina had been paying the mortgage since 1994, but she now wants to sell the flat, but not as a Trek-themed residence. “I want to sell it as conventional property,” she said.

“To say I’m gutted is an understatement,” said Alleyne. “It is my life’s work – and it looks like it’s going into a skip. I admit there were tears.”

Alleyne estimates to redo the project elsewhere would cost at least £100,000.

For those attending the annual Spock Days this June, several familiar Trek names will be in attendance.

Spock Days is held once a year in Vulcan, Alberta, Canada, and this year, the event will run from June 8-10 and feature five Trek-related guests.

Connor Trinneer, Star Trek: Enterprise‘s Trip Tucker, has just been added to the guest list for 2012. He joins Star Trek: Voyager‘s Garrett Wang (a return guest to Spock Days), Arlene Martel (T’Pring) and makeup artist John Paladin. The fifth guest will be announced on Friday at a wine and cheese event to be held at the Vulcan Tourism and Trek Station at 7 PM. The cost for the wine and cheese event is $10.

Fans of the Vulcan Tourism Society were polled on Facebook to see which guests they wanted to see at this year’s Spock Days, and Connor was a popular request.

Typical events at Spock Days include “meet and greets,” casino nights, fireworks, dealer tables, Q&A sessions, a Star Fleet Academy Murder Mystery Dinner Theater and the annual parade.

Airing tomorrow, November 30, on the Science Channel at 8 PM, Trek Nation, produced and narrated by Rod Roddenberry, is a documentary about Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek, and the people involved with Star Trek over the years.

In making Trek Nation, Rod Roddenberry interviewed those who worked with his father over the years, including industry professionals who knew Gene Roddenberry, family friends, and Star Trek fans.

Rod Roddenberry realized that his father was something out of the ordinary back in 1991 when he attended the 25th anniversary of Star Trek at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. When he helped his father to stand onstage, “the entire Shrine Auditorium got up to applaud him; chills went up and down my spine,” said Roddenberry. “That was almost the first smack in the face that there’s more to this guy who’s your father.”

In discovering who his father really was, Roddenberry heard some stories that were difficult for the son of a man who had been “put up on this pedestal throughout my life;” stories that revealed the complete man, not just the myth. “I found out a tremendous number of them that were extremely moving and powerful and painful,” Roddenberry said. “That allowed me, as a son, not just to connect with him, but actually love him.”

Trek Nation will reveal Gene Roddenberry’s legacy using interviews, archival footage and home movies. For those eager to hear more before tomorrow’s television airing, Trek Nation‘s YouTube page features seven “Director’s Logs,” including the one below which features Star Trek: The Next Generation Writer Michael Piller. Other “Director’s Log” entries include exclusive Star Trek clips, deleted scenes, interviews with Patrick Stewart, Nichelle Nichols, composer Brian Langsbard, and an interview with Trek fan Lydia Chilton.

The Director’s Logs can be seen here.

Airing on November 30 on the Science Channel, Trek Nation, produced and narrated by Rod Roddenberry, is a documentary about Star Trek, the people involved with it and the story of how Star Trek changed lives.

Roddenberry interviewed those who knew his father, including Star Wars‘ George Lucas, J.J. Abrams, and others; as well as with fans of Star Trek, including athletes, models, celebrities, politicians and even a king.

In Trek Nation, fans will hear of “amusing and powerful accounts of how Star Trek has affected and even saved lives. We’ll hear stories of how videotapes of the show were smuggled through the Berlin Wall. We’ll learn of a woman, blind since birth, who has seen every episode of Star Trek and how Martin Luther King, Jr. talked Nichelle Nichols into staying on the show. We’ll come to understand how close the ties are between science and science fiction, NASA and Star Trek. And we’ll see how Star Trek created cultural breakthrough after breakthrough – for women, minorities, the handicapped and many more.”

The Commedia Beauregard will be performing A Klingon Christmas Carol this holiday season in Chicago, at the Greenhouse Theater Center.

In A Klingon Christmas Carol, “Scrooge has neither honor nor courage in this uproarious twist on the classic holiday tale. Can the visits of three spirits help him to become a true warrior in time to save Tiny Tim from a horrible fate?”

A Klingon Christmas Carol is the “the first full-length play ever to be produced entirely in the Klingon language.” However, for non-Klingon speakers, English subtitles will be provided.

“”Klingons wouldn’t care if Scrooge was not charitable or nice,” said Commedia Beauregard Artistic Director Christopher O. Kidder.”The spirits that visit our Scrooge are trying to help him become honorable and courageous, the two highest virtues of Klingon society.”

A Klingon Christmas Carol will run from November 25 through December 31. More information can be found here.
