Most actresses in Hollywood who gain a lot of weight after being thin choose to fade away into obscurity, but not Alley. She is including her experiences with weight gain and loss in Kirstie Alley’s Big Life, a new reality show set to air on A&E on Sunday.

According to A&E, one major theme to be shown in Kirstie Alley’s Big Life will be “Kirstie’s comedic and unique take on her battle with weight loss, which coincides with the launch of her new weight loss company.”

In addition to her weight loss program, Alley is “also producing a feature film, patenting multiple inventions, working hard to raise two normal Hollywood teenagers, True and Lillie, taking care of eight ringtail lemurs, and on top of everything, looking for love…nothing like a little pressure.”

“I have a big life,” said Alley. “I had all these incarnations in one lifetime. I’ve done…comedy, I’ve done drama. So this is a new challenge to me.

“We’re going to see me lose weight in the show,” said Alley. “Because I think that we always see people the before and after. And we don’t know what really happened in-between. And the in-between is really the meat and potatoes, no pun intended.”

Viewers will also see Alley’s children and the family’s twenty-five pets including lemurs and chinchillas.

As for her weight, Alley is bluntly honest about herself. “I think it’s stupid to say, you know, I’m full-figured. F–k you! You’re f–king fat!”

The new deal, worth seven figures to Braga, will see Braga developing projects for the studio, as well as working on either a new or an existing twentieth show next season.

Braga has spent the last two seasons with the studio, working as executive producer on 24. “Brannon quickly became integral to the success of the last couple seasons of 24,” said 20th Century Fox TV chairman Gary Newman. “We thought it was a great idea to have someone as talented as he is here to develop.

“He’s known for his ability to write genre programming, and as a studio, we love that programming,” Newman said. “It takes advantage of all the new opportunities the digital world gives you to connect with your rabid fanbase.”

Braga’s experience with 20th Century Fox execs Newman, Dana Walden and Jennifer Nicholson Salke were factors in his decision to make the commitment. “Creatively, Fox and I are very much aligned,” he said. “The kind of shows they do and the way they develop, it’s an innovative group. We get along very well.”

Syfy is in talks with former Star Trek Writer/Producer Moore for another Battlestar series, which will reportedly return to Battlestar Galactica’s roots.

With Caprica doing reasonably well, Syfy is looking to continue the popular Battlestar franchise. “We’re looking for other ways to spin off Battlestar beyond Caprica,” said Syfy Executive VP of Development Mark Stern. “That world is so rich. Were sitting down with Ron Moore and his team.”

According to Stern, although the new show would return to Battlestar’s “space-opera” roots, the show would “not necessarily be a traditional series.”

It is also expected that Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica prequel, will be picked up for a second season.

Over the weekend, Dark Horse Comics announced that Burton would be writing the as-of-yet unnamed short story which will appear in the June issue of Myspace Dark Horse Presents.

According to Dark Horse Comics Marketing Coordinator Aaron Colter, the story will be “about physics, family and consequences.”

Burton is no stranger to writing, having penned Aftermath, the story of what happens to America after a natural disaster and a race war.

Thus far, only this one story is planned, but Burton “is looking forward to doing more with us in the future,” said Dark Horse Comics.

Fresh off his Oscar win for Pixar’s Up, Giacchino will score John Carter of Mars, which takes place on the “Red Planet” where Civil War veteran John Carter, imprisoned by twelve-foot tall green creatures, escapes and encounters the Princess of Helium.

John Carter of Mars, featuring Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) as John Carter, is due out in 2012.

Plan calls for filming on A Very Harold & Kumar to begin in June. A director is still needed, and it is not known if Kal Penn (Kumar Patel) will be returning. Penn is currently in Washington, D.C., working for the Obama administration.

The story of Harold and Kumar will begin a few years after the second film and Harold and Kumar are not living together anymore. “”I think we catch up a little later in Harold and Kumar’s lives,” said Cho. “It takes place over the holiday season and I think this could be a legit holiday movie, which is a shocker. I think their intent is to sort of honor the traditions of the holiday movie style, that genre. I don’t know if they’ll stick to that. I don’t know how many rewrite are gonna happen, but from what I hear, they’re happy with the idea.”

Cho also spoke another of his movie roles, the Star Trek sequel, updating the status. “I still think they’re hammering out script ideas,” he said, admitting that he didn’t know who the villain would be. When asked if he has tried to pitch anything for Sulu in the sequel, he said, “No, I’m not ballsy enough.” But Cho was confident, given his role in the first movie, that his part would be satisfying.

“I think this is the last year I will do this,” he said. “It’s exciting, but I think I’ve done enough of it. I’m looking forward to concentrating on my personal life.”

Originally, it was believed that the character of Spock would not amount to much. There were also worries about reaction from a certain segment of the population. “There was a concern that the Bible Belt country would reject the character,” said Nimoy. “To come this distance and be talking about it is overwhelming.

“It’s extraordinary. I consider myself an extremely lucky person. The character has been welcomed by so many people. I’m pretty touched by that and pretty humbled by that.”

Nimoy told a story about something that happens often to him, being recognized by fans. Recently, he was having lunch with his wife in a restaurant in New York, and their waiter, an immigrant from Bangladesh, told Nimoy that he had grown up watching Star Trek. The show had affected him, explained the waiter, who began to cry.

When Nimoy went to pay the bill for the lunch, the waiter told him that another patron had also recognized Nimoy and had paid the bill for him. And after leaving the restaurant and getting into a cab, Nimoy realized that on the dashboard of that cab was–a cardboard cutout of Spock!

Nimoy has plenty to do in his life nowadays with TV work and his photography. His latest photography project, Secret Selves, opens July 31 at MASS MoCA in Massachusetts. For Secret Selves, Nimoy photographed almost a hundred people in the studio who were illustrating their hidden or secret selves by courtesy of props and/or costumes.

And what of the future? Nimoy is hoping to find “undiscovered territory” “There will be ideas that pop up that will be irresistible,” he said.

Approximately one hundred loved ones joined the Koenig family at the Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon, California, for the private ceremony.

Walter Koenig’s representative David Moss described the ceremony. “It was a celebration of life,” he said. “All of the family was there and a lot of his actor friends and filmmakers flew down and joined in. It was not all happiness, I must say. There was a lot of sadness, but there were some very nice high points.”

Andrew Koenig took his own life last month after struggling for years with depression.

Koenig’s parents did not speak at the ceremony, but their daughter Danielle and her comedian husband Jimmy Pardo showed a ten-minute film they had created about Andrew’s life.

“It was tough for them (the parents) but there was some closure and I think that was important,” said Moss.

The Starship Aurora section explains that the “Captain and Crew aboard this Starship will be working on a hot major production together, and will be recruiting talent from the six United Planets. Submit your resume, if you can take the heat.”

John Eaves, concept designer and illustrator, designed all of the starships and all of the planets for the website.

During a Saturday afternoon symposium featuring the Oscar-nominated hair and makeup artists for 2010, one of the three Star Trek XI makeup artists, Mindy Hall, makeup department head, spoke for the group. “We’re thrilled there were forty-plus makeup artists, twelve of which are out here today, who stood beside us. They weren’t behind us. They were beside us, taking the designs and bringing them to life.”

“From the get go, all we wanted to do was work that was worthy of this,” said Barney Burman, special effects makeup artist. Burman also spoke about his work on Star Trek XI with TrekMovie.com, explaining how the duties were divvied up and sharing photos showing the work of the makeup artists. “I initially brought Joel [Harlow] on to be my key artist and to work as the supervisor on set for prosthetics, while I was designing and creating stuff back in the shop,” he said. “Once we started shooting I became so overwhelmed with stuff to do in the shop that I decided to have Joel take over the Romulans, close to where J.J. could see them every day, so we broke into two different camps. And Mindy [Hall] was always handling the straight makeup, so that were three different camps but we stayed in communication with each other and supported each other. We worked as close together as one unit, while being three units.”

What would Burman like to see in Star Trek XII? “I would love to see the Klingons unmasked,” he said. “To me it is kind of like with Batman Begins, and they made it anew. And in the sequel the knew they had to bring the Joker into it, because he is the most iconic Batman villain. So to me it is the same thing, if you are going to do the second Star Trek, hopefully we get to see the Klingons in the sequel.”
