USS Intrepid To Host Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience

1 min read

This summer, Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience will be hosted on the 12,000 square feet USS Intrepid, located on Pier 86 in Manhattan, New York.

The Intrepid was the “recovery vessel for both the Mercury and Gemini space missions, as well as the current home to the space shuttle Enterprise.” It is now the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, a “non-profit, educational institution.”

Beginning July 9th and running through Halloween, Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience will allow “cadets” to “visit nine zones focusing on the Academy’s special training in language, medicine, engineering, navigation, command and science. Once training is completed, cadets receive their specialty.”

The Experience features “interactive activities and unique technology, including Leap Motion, table projections, projection mapping and holograms.”

Other activities will include: movies on the flight deck (Star Trek (2009), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (each film introduced by a special guest); Astronomy nights with a Star Trek twist, and special tours and talks.
