In what has been a bad year for fans of the original series, comes word that yet another Star Trek actor has had a health crisis.

Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek‘s Lieutenant Uhura, has suffered a mild stroke.

The word that Nichols, aged 82, suffered the stroke came today on her official Facebook page. “Last night while at her home in L.A., Nichelle Nichols suffered from a mild stroke,” said Zach McGinnis of Galactic Productions, LLC, who represents Nichols. “She is currently undergoing testing to determine how severe the stroke was. Please keep her in your thoughts.”

TrekToday joins Uhura’s many fans to wish the actress a speedy recovery.

TrekToday will update the article when more information becomes available.

Update as of 6:25 PM EST: “Nichelle Nichols has had both a CAT scan and an MRI today. The CAT scan came back negative and we are awaiting the results from the MRI. Currently she is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations. Her right side has shown minor signs or mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralyses. “

  2. It doesn’t appear to be the first stroke that she has had. I imagine it’s been pretty stressful for her since Nimoy’s, and Whitney’s passing.

  3. I was lucky enough to meet Nichelle last year. Well, more like my wife met her and I stood by and watched. Still, I was there in Glendale, CA during the screen of Star Trek: Generations as part of the Malcolm McDowell film tribute and both Ms. Nichols and Michael Dorn were there as well. She was such a kind person to my wife. She looked a bit frail at that time and didn’t sit through most of the film, so I can’t say that this surprises me. Still, I hope she has a speedy recovery or a quick release. My best to her family.

  4. Oh my! It sounds like she was really on top of it; my heart goes out to her.

  5. I hope she makes a full recovery. It’s good news the stroke only seems to have been minor. I didn’t know she was 82. Lovely lady. The world of Star Trek can’t bear to lose anyone else so soon after Leonard and Grace,
