Star Trek into DarknessJohn Cho will be appearing in ABC’s Selfie comedy this autumn.

Selfie is a “modern take” on My Fair Lady.

In Selfie, Eliza Dooley (Karen Gillan), a “self-obsessed twenty-something…is more concerned with ‘likes’ than being liked. After suffering a public and humiliating breakup, she becomes the subject of a viral video and suddenly has more social media ‘followers’ than she ever imagined — but for all the wrong reasons. She then enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image. Cho plays the ‘self-assured, successful marketing expert Henry, who is a different breed from today’s social media-addicted society.’ Henry decides to ‘re-market’ co-worker Eliza as a challenge.

Cho and cast have already shot the pilot episode, and Cho explained Henry’s role in Selfie. “[Eliza] hires Henry to make her respectable, to teach her how to be a real person, sort of,” he said. “It starts from there. I’m not sure where we’ll go in the season, but it’s been fun!

“[Henry’s] an observer and has seen it but is tired of people like this, but he sees something special in her and comes to realize that she is special. It’s just not in the way that she thinks.”

Selfie will air on ABC this fall.
