EPIX Trek Fest

On Sunday, February 16 on EPIX, an all-day tribute to Star Trek will feature the premiere of Star Trek into Darkness, commentary by Leonard Nimoy and George Takei, and a Nimoy special presentation.

The fun begins at 6 AM with The Captains Close-Up: William Shatner, and includes several original series movies, several Shatner documentaries, the Nimoy special presentation, Trekkies and Star Trek into Darkness.

A new science fiction parody, Unbelievable!!!!, features many familiar Star Trek names.

Unbelievable!!!! “is an homage and parody of B-rated Science Fiction movies of the 1950′s and 1960′s. The dialogue is intentionally stilted and wooden as are the special effects. The sets, costumes and props are all purposefully of makeshift quality. However, the plot is solid and propels the characters through the entire story as though it has a serious intent or statement.”

Stewart: Bye Bye Jade Rabbit

In a short clip seen on last night’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Next Generation‘s Patrick Stewart dressed up as the doomed Chinese moon rover Jade Rabbit.

The moon rover Jade Rabbit, launched by China in December, suffered an unexpected technical malfunction and is expected to “die” early.

Skele-Treks Now Shipping

Last summer, TrekToday reported on a new line of Trek-themed merchandise, Star Trek Skele-Treks, and today comes word that the Skele-Treks have begun to ship.

The Skele-Treks universe is inspired by Mexican culture and traditions in conjunction with Mexico-based Maya Studio and Spanish artist Javi Molner, and were seen at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
