Hal Sutherland, co-founder of Filmation Studios, passed away recently.

Sutherland was the director of the first season of Star Trek: The Animated Series.

Joining Disney in the 1950s, Sutherland formed Filmation Studios with Norm Prescott and Lou Scheimer. Many a child’s Saturday morning entertainment came courtesy of their work in cartoons such as The Batman/Superman Hour, Archie’s Fun House, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and of course, Star Trek: The Animated Series.

After Star Trek: The Animated Series, Sutherland and family relocated to Washington State, where he pursued his hobby of painting.

No cause of death was given.
