North Carolina Politician Resigns – in Klingon

A politician resigning isn’t always news, but David Waddell from North Carolina made it news with his resignation letter.

Waddell, who was on the Indian Trail Town Council, penned his resignation letter in the Klingon language. Indian Trail is near Charlotte, North Carolina.

The letter, accompanied by a translation, was in “inside joke,” said Waddell. “Folks don’t know what to think of me half the time,” said Waddell, “so I might as well have one last laugh [on the board].”

The board was not amused, with Mayor Michael Alvarez calling the letter unprofessional. “It’s an embarrassment for Indian Trail, and it’s an embarrassment for North Carolina,” he said.

Waddell’s resignation, which takes effect at month end, is due to his frustration with the council.

“Perhaps today is a good day (to) resign,” said Waddell in his resignation letter.
