Is this the Enterprise theme that could have been?

It’s no secret that the Enterprise theme tune was not hugely popular, but for quite some time it was rumoured that the theme would in fact be Wherever You Will Go by The Calling. The song was used in promotional adverts on UPN at the time, leading to conjecture that it would also be the show’s theme.

One enterprising (no pun intended) YouTuber mashed up the credits with Wherever You Will Go; the music blends well with the timing of the video, most notably a change in tempo when the rockets lift off. Could it have been an early contender for the theme?

New Star Trek Pinball Machine

Fans of pinball games will be pleased to hear that a new pinball machine inspired by Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek into Darkness is to be released.

The new pinball machine promises to “puts players in Captain James Kirk’s chair of the U.S.S. Enterprise, embarking on a journey to protect and defend the planets of the Federation.”

Abrams: Khan, Pegg And Future Trek

J.J. Abrams explained why he insisted on secrecy regarding the villain of Star Trek into Darkness and on his conversation with Simon Pegg after Pegg went out and claimed that the villain was not Khan.

In addition, Abrams gave his thoughts on where Star Trek 3 will go.

A new book, Star Trek: The Art of Juan Ortiz is now available in a limited edition version in both the U.S. and the U.K.

Published by Titan books, Star Trek: The Art of Juan Ortiz features “unique retro-style art with the look of a ’60s movie poster, comic book, pulp novel cover or advertisement, one each for all eighty [original series] episodes.”

Keating: Blooper Reel, Finale And Abrams Trek

The cast of Star Trek: Enterprise came together at Dragon Con for a conversation about the show,  and this conversation is  also included in the new Blu-ray release of the second season.

Dominic Keating, who played Malcolm Reed, spoke about the new Blu-ray and about his time on Enterprise, plus his audition for Star Trek (2009).

Abrams Promotes Wyatt

Speaking at a release party for the Blu-ray and DVD release of Star Trek into Darkness, J.J. Abrams shared his thoughts on a potential candidate for the director’s chair in Star Trek 3.

Rumor has it that Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) is going to be tapped for that position.

London Shoppers Beamed Up

To promote the release of Star Trek into Darkness on DVD, Blu-ray and video-on-demand, Blinkbox and top illusionist Scott Penrose put on a transporting exhibition at London’s Westfield shopping centre.

The video, seen below, amazed a gathered crowd who saw people beamed away from one spot and sent to other parts of the mall.
