According to the rumor mill, Star Trek into Darkness’ Benedict Cumberbatch might be seen in Star Wars Episode VII.

If this rumor is true, then Cumberbatch would be reuniting with Star Trek into Darkness’ J.J. Abrams.

Cumberbatch was a fan of Star Wars as a child, and getting a role in the movie would fulfill a childhood dream. “”I was much more connected to [Star Wars] as a kid, in the way that a lot of kids are because it’s immediate storytelling, very simple – a beautifully, outrageously simple narrative in a way – and a wonderful three-act melodrama, opera,” he said.

“And I loved them,” said Cumberbatch. “I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo. Everything Harrison Ford did I just thought was the coolest thing ever – Raiders of the Lost Ark was very much my upbringing as well.”

Several sources are denying the rumor though, from Daily Variety‘s Marc Graser, to Ain’t It Cool NewsHarry Knowles. “…the rumor is a fun rumor that many, including me, wish were true,” said Graser.

  1. I agree. I think he’s a fantastic actor. Why the negative votes for this post? Oh, right… I forgot how negative the majority of people around here are when news is posted about actors who aren’t from their “real” Trek.
