Mulgrew Joins Netflix Series

1 min read

Star Trek: Voyager‘s Kate Mulgrew has joined the Netflix series Orange is the New Black.

The series is an adaptation of Piper Kerman‘s book, Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, published last year.

In Orange is the New Black, Kerman (pictured above to the right), played by Taylor Schilling, is in a “notorious Connecticut prison” for fifteen months after being convicted for money laundering for a drug dealer.

Mulgrew will play Red, a Russian prisoner, who “runs the prison kitchen and serves as a mother figurehead for the women.”

Laura Prepon (That ’70s Show) will appear as Kerman’s ex-girlfriend Alex, who was a heroin drug smuggler for a West African kingpin.

  1. Finally… a Trek actor has a meaty role to play away from the ST franchise. OITNB is a great show. Congrats Kate!
