As Vorta are cloned and genetically engineered and all of that, it certainly doesn't strain credibility too much to imagine Eris having been thus equipped with any particular abilities suited to this mission (in this case, the telekinetic powers made the species seem more intimidating than it otherwise might have).

This was a really good episode. I still remember being blown away by the Odessey's destruction at the end, with the runabouts limping away with their tails between their legs. It really set the tone for the rest of the series.

The biggest surprise going back and rewatching this one after having watched the entire series is how different the Vorta are. I always sort of assumed the telekenesis was faked somehow, because it was never mentioned again. (Their powers can't be controlled by a collar, or at least not this collar, because as Quark said it was nothing but a complicated locking mechanism.)

Or maybe some Vorta are telekenetic, but not all of them. :)

I went to a Trek convention during the time period between this episode and the next season's start, and one of the DS9 writers / producers (I forget who) said "Are you guys ready to see the Federation kick some serious butt?!" Oh yes, yes indeed.

I still like this episode, and I agree that the destruction of the ship is a little...underwhelming. I don't know about "the finest" arc in Trek history. It's certainly a good arc, but there are some major flaws, imho. For starters, the writers obviously had no idea that they were going to go somewhere with these characters...the inconsistencies between this episode and later ones is pretty dramatic. And I know I'll get hatred for this, but I have always thought that the war ended too nicely in the final episode(s).
