Urban: Excuses And Teases

1 min read

After last week’s revelation from Karl Urban regarding the role that Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing in Star Trek 2, the actor had an excuse for his loose lips.

Fans were not sure if Urban’s comments were true and a slip-up on the part of the actor, or just a bit of trickery and misdirection. But in a recent interview, Urban explained why he seemingly misspoke.

Urban blamed jet-lag for his slip of the tongue. “I’m really not at liberty to discuss anything about Star Trek,” he said. “All I can say is that I did that interview after a twenty-two-hour flight from New Zealand. I literally hopped off the plane into the interview.”

Then Urban said something that again caught the full attention of the Star Trek fanbase. “I can promise you that before the end of Comic-Con, some exclusive Star Trek footage, it’s going to come out,” he said. “You’re going to find it. It’s going to come out.”

Is this true, or is it merely an attempt to divert attention from the Cumberbatch character revelation? With Comic-Con ending shortly, fans will soon have their answer.

  1. Has anyone given any thought to the fact that Cumberbatch is NOT playing the villain… and his role as Gary Mitchell is simply the impetus for the schism in friendship for Kirk and Spock that Orci spoke of. We know that Peter Weller is also cast in this movie – but there has been no clue really given to his part. And let’s not forget that at an MTV awards – they seemed to showcase some Klingon imagery… For all we know – the misdirection is actually trying to get people excited about guessing Cumberbatch’s role – leaving the real “villain” of the movie safe from speculation. I’m guessing Weller as a Klingon Captain…

  2. Since he was flying 22 hours from New Zealand, how about a picture of an Air New Zealand plane, rather than Qantus which is Australian…. just saying.

  3. Then the screenwriters would be showing a great deal more imagination and insight than I think they’re capable of.

  4. Ooh! Weller would make a GREAT Klningon captain.

    “Your move… Kirk.”

  5. urban is a GREAT actor but I thought he was miscast as Dr. McCoy because the character isn’t supposed to appear as if he can kick the whole bridge crew’s ass. amazingly he pulled it off with his wit and charm and his almost dead on impression of DeForest Kelly’s quirks and nuances.

  6. You just have to ignore the fact that he usually plays an action hero lol

  7. True! He made an excellent McCoy. Next movie, McCoy kicks the entire bridge crew’s ass.

  8. I was just going for a plane, and was in a hurry. I saw a Qantus one when I did an image search on airplanes, and figured “Well, I’m sure they fly from New Zealand.”

Just was too lazy to put a lot of effort into finding an airplane picture. No disrespect was meant towards New Zealand!
