San Diego Comic-Con Trek Guide

For those attending this week’s San Diego Comic-Con, which takes place this week, Star Trek.com has put together a listing of the must-see Trek-related events and merchandise.

San Diego Comic-Con will run from Thursday July 12 through Sunday July 15, with a preview night on Wednesday, July 11. Comic-Con will take place at the San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, California.

New Impressionist Style Trek Posters To Debut

A new series of posters featuring Star Trek and Klingon ships can be ordered from Bye Bye Robots.

Two impressionist-style posters, the first in a new series of four Trek posters, have been created by painter and illustrator Jeff Foster.

Pegg To Appear In Zombie Documentary

Star Trek 2‘s Simon Pegg will be seen in a new documentary from Exhibit A Pictures and Director Alexandre O. Phillippe.

The documentary, Doc of the Dead, is the exploration of screen zombies “in all their manifestations.”

Shooting is currently in progress for Doc of the Dead, with Pegg’s interview already completed. Also to be interviewed for the documentary is George Romero (Night of The Living Dead).

Star Trek 2 Villain Revealed?

An inadvertent slip by Karl Urban may have let slip the name of the villain for Star Trek 2.

While doing promotion for Dredd for SFX, Urban’s comment on Benedict Cumberbatch may have revealed the character being played by Cumberbatch in Star Trek 2.

Roddenberry’s White Room: 02B3 To Debut At Comic-Con

Two Rod Roddenberry films will debut at San Diego Comic-con next month, with the news that White Room: 02B3 will be screened as well as the fan documentary Trek Nation.

White Room:02B3, starring Brecklin Meyer, Tamlyn Tomita, David Blue and Rachel True, is the “story of six strangers who wake up in a white room to find out they are part of a bizarre experiment that could help change the face of humanity forever.”

KRE-O Hasbro Trek Building Set

The San Diego Comic-con begins next week and a Star Trek KREON line of building sets will be introduced there.

A teaser trailer can now be seen that previews a KRE-O Star Trek stop motion digital short, which will debut along with the U.S.S. Enterprise building set and KREON figures at the Hasbro booth at Comic-con.

Burton’s Reading Rainbow App Released

Pegg L.A. Noir Set Photos

Last month, TrekToday reported that Simon Pegg might be guest-starring in the TNT L.A. Noir pilot, and set photos which have recently emerged seem to confirm that report.

L.A. Noir, is a period drama about a cop working in “an era of rampant police corruption,” and would center on the 1940s-1950s “epic battle” between Los Angeles Police Chief William Parker (Neil McDonough) and boxer-turned-mobster Mickey Cohen.

Wang Voices Vulcan County App

A new smartphone app for Vulcan County, Alberta, Canada features the voice of Star Trek: Voyager‘s Garrett Wang.

The new app will enable those using it to “take a science tour through the county, find a deal in the digital coupon book and enjoy a celebrity-narrated walking tour.”

A short preview from William Shatner‘s Get a Life! documentary is now available on Shatner’s YouTube page.

Get a Life! is the “exploration of strangers who have for years attended conventions…” and the film will reveal “a fun and touching side of the fanfare surrounding Star Trek, and examine the thrill of what’s happening at these fantasy conventions and the enduring popularity of the film and TV series.”

Hewitt: Creating The World Of Deep Space Nine

Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe shared memories of his time on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine including setting up long term storylines, actor influence on storylines and lack of interference by the studio.

The writers of Deep Space Nine had more freedom than they found on some shows due to that lack of studio interference. “On Deep Space Nine, we got virtually no studio notes ever,” said Wolfe. “They largely just let us do what we wanted. Things went very smoothly.”

July-August Trek Conventions And Appearances

There will be eleven conventions, shows or appearances in July and August that feature actors of interest to Star Trek fans. This listing of conventions and shows features actors from all of the televised series and several of the Star Trek movies.

There will be three conventions in July, beginning with Polaris 26, which will take place July 6-8 at the Sheraton Parkway North Toronto in Richmond Hill, Canada. In attendance at Polaris 26 will be Robert O’Reilly, Wil Wheaton and J.G. Hertzler.
