Paramount has ALWAYS over-charged for Star Trek... whether it was VHS or DVD and now Blu-Ray... they always have a huge mark-up versus the usual TV collection paradigm.

I'm guessing it's simply supply and demand, and that there's enough hardcore Trek fans for the profit margin to make sense. But yeah, I've learned to be patient. There are very few movies/games I buy any more when the first come out.

Sadly I doubt HD eps will come to Netflix soon. That would discourage folks from buying them after all!

What? No audio commentary by any of the actors, directors or writers? This is something the Brits do really well, but Star Trek to my knowledge has never offered audio commentary on any boxed set of TV episodes.

I remember the DVD versions retailing at $150.00/season when they first came out and actually selling price was 99.99-119.99. All things considered, the pricing HAS dropped to $118.00 Retail and $79.99 actual selling price. CBS/Paramount HAS dropped the price, when you consider the show cost 1mil or so an episode to produce. It was the most costly show of its time. Oddly, though, it didn't hit its stride or fan base growth until season 4 of TNG when Sir Patrick Stewart nearly didn't renew his contract. After that, the fan base was 40mil+ consistently watching it.

Try getting any TV exec to wait 4 years again for a profit lift and you'll be laughed out of the room. They seem to forget that ST:TNG and X-FILES both would have been cancelled 1st season by today's standards.

That said, I'm happy to pay $79.99. Beside, I know the prices will end up dropping the longer the Blu-Ray discs are out and I can save money then, too.

Who pays this amount for a single series season? All the other non-trek tv shows and movies, even those made after year 2000, cost about one-third this price, and this TNG season was made in 1987. "Only Fools Pay Retail"

10: "Greed is Eternal"
CBS/Paramount is getting greedy, probably get some eager die hard Trekkies to but the initial release, but many would wait till the price drops.
3: "Never Pay more for an Acquisition than you have to"
These things usually start are a higher price, than drop down after a short while. Many other popular Sci-Fi shows such as the Stargates and Battlestar Galactica are going around $20 per season. Maybe there will be a packaged deal for the whole series when all the DVDs are done.

Only someone who actually likes the series would pay what is a pretty good discount price ($79) for a big box of remastered blu-ray discs with lots of extras.
That is pretty comparable to what the first season of TOS came out on DVD, but I'm sure only a tool would want to pay that kind of money for a series that's 40 years old.

Maybe I'd pay that much for one of the good seasons. But certainly not season 1.

No Bonz, American fans have the answer!

Back in the day with DVDs I would not pay £70 a season. I said I'd buy them when they were £15. Of course that price came and I'd lost interest by then.

Considering they are Blu-ray (which is a premium) and remastered, I would think about £40 is a fair price for a new release. Direct translation of $80 plus tax would be £60 - too rich for my blood!

My desire to own things is non-existent now, so I think I too shall be renting these bad boys.
