A pretty nowhere episode, but I love the everybody-hits-the-jackpot scene, with Martus asking Rom, “Is there any way I can blame this on you?”

The neutrino error that MEG alludes to is explained in The Physics of Star Trek. The anomaly Dax discovers — too many left-handed neutrinos — should have surprised her for quite a different reason. In real life, ALL neutrinos are left-handed.

I pretty much agree with all of this, but what makes the episode work for me is seeing the development of the Bashir-O’Brien friendship, which only gets better.

Rivals is a weak episode. It plays like something from the first year of TNG – the old Phase II scripts – updated to the DS9 cast, without much sensitivity to what these characters & actors did well

That said: i wonder if Jim Cameron got his idea for asteroid-mining from this?
