The attempt to tie the original timeline in with the new one is the biggest mistake of JJ Trek, especially with regards to the presence of Original Spock.

It is simply impossible for me to believe that the same Spock who worked furiously on 1930 Earth to help rescue the timeline from a Nazi future would, upon being deposited in a past in which his own home planet is totally obliterated and 98% of his race murdered, simply hang around, shrug "oh well", and allow that timeline to continue.

Original Spock is familiar with a dozen different methods of traveling through time. He knows where the Guardian of Forever is. He's the go-to guy for calculating slingshot trajectories around the sun. He was even the guy who SUGGESTED a time-travel solution to save the Earth from destruction from the Whale Probe. Now he's just going to sit there?

This is why, if they had to reboot Star Trek, a clean reboot that owed nothing to the original timeline or characters was the way to go. Instead, in trying to satisfy everybody, they've taken the ultimate Trek icon and made him unrecognizable.
